Suggested Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)

  • Physically demanding job including but not limited to tasks such as walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, crouching, crawling, lifting, reaching, using hands to operate and use objects, tools and controls and to reach with hands and arms
Reports To

Building Principal in day‑to‑day operations and human relations. When the principal isn’t on duty, the Custodial Supervisor becomes the immediate supervisor.

Maintenance Supervisor in repair, maintenance and cleaning procedures;
Approval of sick leave/vacation/personal, etc.

Position Goal

To provide a safe, clean, and healthy environment for children and staff at the building level. Maintains the housekeeping, building security, and preventive maintenance program for the building.

Terms of Employment

Twelve (12) month contract or Nine (9) month contract.

Eight (8) hours per day with 30 minute unpaid lunch.

Hours:

1:30 pm – 10:00 pm.

Step 0 is $21.19 per hour (260 × 8 hr × $21.19 = $44,075.20) – prorated based on start date.

10 days vacation after 1 full year, earns monthly sick leave and 3 days personal leave.

Evaluation

One cooperative review by the Building Supervisor and Maintenance Supervisor.

  • Completes daily assignments.
  • Lets need for additional supplies be known to the maintenance supervisor; orders supplies & controls inventory.

  • Develops a planned cleaning schedule for summer work.
  • Maintains a safe school environment.
  • Sees and initiates action in areas of need.
  • Keeps abreast of new cleaning procedures.
  • Uses time wisely.
  • Confers with Principal regularly and/or on a daily basis.
Responsibilities
  • Cleans and maintains assigned building space and assists in other spaces when needed.
  • Makes minor repairs and reports the need for other repairs to the maintenance supervisor.
  • Properly cleans all floor surfaces (i.e., sweeps, scrubs, mops and buffs floors).
  • Dusts equipment and woodwork or other inside finishes and trim.
  • Keeps assigned restrooms thoroughly clean and sanitary.
  • Replenishes supplies in a timely manner.
  • Empties and cleans waste receptacles.
  • Washes windows and walls.
  • Assists in moving and arranging furniture and equipment.
  • Maintains equipment and materials used in the work.
  • Disposes of all trash in a manner established for the building.
  • Responsible to receive deliveries to the building.
  • Checks operation of freezers and refrigerators during vacation periods.
  • In emergencies performs tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the principal or supervisor.
  • Keeps front sidewalk and walkway clear of snow.
  • Monitors and assumes responsibility for energy‑saving policies of the buildings and district.
  • Cleans up spills and “accidents” (e.g., product of illness).
  • Replaces light bulbs, starters, fuses and tubes.
  • Checks exit lamps on a daily basis, replaces bulbs & batteries when necessary.
  • Checks fire extinguishers monthly.
  • Operates heating equipment.
  • Cleans range hood filters every two to four weeks.
  • Unloads deliveries and distributes packages.
  • Responsible to clean and set up for school assemblies, programs, etc.
  • Completes all summer work in a timely fashion.
  • Disenfects areas periodically or as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
