BUILDING CUSTODIAN JOB DESCRIPTION QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
- Ability to understand and follow instructions;
Basic Math and Writing skills, email and computer skills - Ability to give instructions and lead others
- Physically demanding job including walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, crouching, crawling, lifting, reaching, using hands to operate and use objects, tools and controls
Building Principal for day-to-day operations and human relations.
Maintenance Supervisor for repair, maintenance, and cleaning procedures; approval of sick leave/vacation/personal.
Immediate supervisor is the building principal. When school is closed and the principal isn't on duty, the Custodial Supervisor becomes the immediate supervisor.
POSITION GOALTo provide a safe, clean, and healthy environment for children and staff at the building level. Maintain the housekeeping, building security, and preventive maintenance program for the building.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT- Twelve (12) month contract or Nine (9) month contract
- Eight (8) hours per day with 30 minute unpaid lunch
- This role evaluates performance through a co-operative review by the Building Supervisor and Maintenance Supervisor.
- Performance criteria include personal & physical qualities, human relations, and general objectives of the job.
- Clean and maintain assigned building space and assist in other spaces when needed.
- Make minor repairs and report the need for other repairs to the maintenance supervisor.
- Properly clean all floor surfaces: sweep, scrub, mop, and buff floors.
- Dust equipment and woodwork or other inside finishes and trim.
- Keep assigned restrooms thoroughly clean and sanitary.
- Replenish supplies in a timely manner.
- Empty and clean waste receptacles.
- Wash windows and walls.
- Assist in moving and arranging furniture and equipment.
- Maintain equipment and materials used in the work.
- Dispose of all trash in a manner established for the building.
- Responsible to receive deliveries to the building.
- Check operation of freezers and refrigerators during vacation periods.
- In emergencies perform tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor.
- Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the principal or supervisor.
- Keep front sidewalk and walkway clear of snow.
- Monitor and assume responsibility for energy-saving policies of the buildings and district.
- Clean up spills and accidents.
- Replace light bulbs, starters, fuses and tubes.
- Check exit lamps daily, replace bulbs & batteries when necessary.
- Operate heating equipment.
- Clean range hood filters every two to four weeks.
- Unload deliveries and distribute packages.
- Responsible to clean and set up for school assemblies, programs, etc.
- Complete all summer work in a timely fashion.
- Disinfect areas periodically or as directed.
- Other duties as assigned.
