POSITION SUMMARYThe Custodial Associate is primarily responsible for maintaining a consistently clean, safe and welcoming facility. As a member of this team, the Custodial Associate performs custodial duties within an assigned area to include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, disinfecting, polishing, removing trash/recycling, and other general cleaning tasks. Work in this position is performed indoors and outdoors, as needed. To be successful in this role, the Custodial Associate maintains reliable attendance, thoroughly completes tasks in a timely manner, and exhibits a positive attitude.
DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures all museum premises, within an assigned area, are cleaned thoroughly and carefully on a regular schedule and as needed
- Tends to Custodial safety concerns in an urgent manner
- Collaborates across departments in the performance of cleaning duties in sensitive areas such as galleries or storage rooms
- Partners with the Events Team and Facilities Team to ensure appropriate housekeeping services in preparation for, during, and following events
- Monitors and/or participates in supply, furniture, and equipment moving activities, as needed
- Maintains stock of cleaning supplies and materials
- Supports efforts to organize and relocate items in storage
- Shares responsibility in floor care using various cleaning tools, machinery, and cleaning supplies
- Serves as a key member of the Emergency Response Team
- Fosters a culture of collaboration
- A High school diploma or equivalent
- A minimum of 1-2 years of Custodial experience
- Experience with a range of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment used in Custodial work
- Is reliable, conscientious, and attentive to detail; comfortable working in settings requiring a high degree of accuracy and care
- Has the ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; read correspondence, diagrams, and technical manuals; write documents following prescribed formats; and/or present information to others
- Can understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions
- Has the ability to work independently and collaboratively, using judgment and discretion to complete job duties, projects, and assignments
- Ability to multi-task
- Enthusiastic about the museum’s mission and serving our diverse audiences
- Patient and flexible with a focus on positive visitor experience
- Punctual
Dexterity enough to use a keyboard and telephone; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds; may be subject to extended periods of walking, standing, sitting, reaching, balancing, bending, kneeling, handling, feeling, climbing, and twisting; and vision, speech, and hearing sufficient to perform the essential tasks. The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
