The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City's step placement policy.

This position may be underfilled as a Mechanic I with a pay range of 414 - $22.65 - $35.06 hourly.

Full-time City employees will receive preference in the following order: major division first, then department, then all other full-time City employees. Part-time/year-round City employees will receive preference next. If there are no qualified full-time City employees or part-time/year-round City employees, external applicants will then be considered (when the vacancy is open to external applicants).

This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Fleet Management Division of the General Services Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Master Mechanic I is primarily responsible for diagnosing and repairing equipment malfunctions, estimating repair costs, writing service orders and providing other employees with on-the-job training related to automotive repairs and maintenance.

Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. To receive preference, veterans must submit verification of honorable discharge from the United States military service (Department of Defense Form DD214 or NGB Form 22) prior to the closing date of the vacancy announcement.

Applying knowledge and principles of automotive mechanics.

Diagnosing and providing service for various equipment malfunctions.

Performing major repairs of gasoline and diesel automotive equipment.

Utilizing knowledge of mechanics, methods, tools and techniques.

Exercising initiative and independent judgment.

Communicating effectively to convey technical information to inquiring City employees and co-workers.

Performing other duties as assigned.

Possession of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL).

Possession of a current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Automobile (including Light Truck) Certification.

Possession of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Hazmat Endorsement.

Possession of a current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Medium-Heavy Truck Certification or ASE Master Automobile (including Light Truck) Certification.

Knowledge of automotive operation and repair principles, methodologies and techniques.

Skill in applying knowledge of automotive operation and repair principles, methodologies and techniques to work performed.
