Reports To: Automotive Program Director

General Description

Student will assist automotive faculty with general duties involving the maintenance of vehicles, inventory, and preparation of labs.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Familiar with safety procedures when working around vehicles and especially the use of vehicle frame lifts, tools and equipment.
  • Can perform routine maintenance procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Familiar with electrical systems and safety issues dealing with charging and starting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Basic automotive knowledge in maintenance and light repair.
Physical Demands

Heavy work: occasionally exert up to 100 pounds, frequently up to 50 pounds or 20 pounds constantly.

  • Move about classroom and shop area frequently.
  • Communicate with colleagues and students.
  • Position self under vehicles to work on engines.
  • Operate computer and office equipment.
  • Exposed to fumes, odors, dust, gases associated with an automotive shop area.
  • Work in indoor classroom or shop area with occasional outdoor activities; must communicate above sufficient noise.

Visual acuity: judge, observe and assess accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work.

Job Duties
  • Maintain donated vehicles, diagnose problems, change oil, install batteries, and other routine operations.
  • Assist Program Coordinator/Department Chair with inventory and tool organization.
  • Assist in preparation of lab set‑up for various classes.
  • Abide by board policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to a safe educational and working environment.
  • Complete quarterly health and safety training.
  • Participate in emergency, evacuation, and shelter‑in‑place drills.
