Job DescriptionGeneral Description: The Building Service Student Assistant performs a variety of tasks related to event setup, furniture movement, and the inspection of college safety equipment. The position works with the Building Service Specialist to ensure timely completion of tasks related to the inspection of college safety equipment, event setup, and furniture movement.
Responsibilities- Assist the Building Service Specialist in setting up and tearing down arrangements of tables, chairs, and other requested resources for events.
- Perform or assist in monthly inspections of fire extinguishers and interior call boxes.
- Replace overhead light bulbs.
- Cut and replace ceiling tiles.
- Perform repairs within capability.
- Inspect college safety equipment as described.
- Move and set up office or classroom furniture on an as‑needed basis.
- Assist in the occasional repair of furniture.
- Perform duties between 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with occasional evening/weekend hours as necessary. Schedule accommodations will be made for academic classes.
- Work possible opportunities during break periods and holidays.
- Cover main campus, Capitol Hill, and the FACE Center.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours during Fall or Spring semester or 3 credit hours during Summer, or current OCCC student with a federal work study award.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to effectively use a variety of hand tools.
- Ability to read simple drawings and plans.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Occasionally exert up to 100 pounds of force; frequently up to 50 pounds; constantly up to 20 pounds to move objects.
- Frequently move about various campuses.
- Frequently communicate with and listen to Facilities Management staff to perform essential functions.
- Frequently remain standing and stationary.
- Frequently operate equipment involving repetitive motions of hands and wrists.
- Occasionally ascend/descend a ladder.
- Frequently position self to move, lift, push, pull, work on, or operate equipment.
- Judge, observe, and assess accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.
- Essential functions performed outdoors; subject to extreme cold (100°F).
- Communicate above ambient noise levels and exchange accurate information in various situations.
