Overview

Fort Towson Historic Site – Oklahoma Historical Society is seeking a part-time Maintenance Assistant to support operations at Fort Towson Historic Site, a large archaeological site with structural ruins, reconstructed buildings, and a modern museum. The position may also assist with other sites operated by the Fort Towson Historic Site staff, such as Doaksville.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with general maintenance on site grounds, including mowing, weed eating, trimming, tree cutting and removal, and vegetation spraying.
  • Perform daily maintenance and cleaning of grounds.
  • Operate the museum when necessary, including greeting guests, taking admissions, and handling museum store sales. This may include occasional Saturdays when Historical Interpretive staff are off site and during events.
  • Help maintain the cleanliness of the museum and store.
  • Communicate maintenance and repair needs to the supervisor.
  • Assist with maintaining facilities, tools, and equipment.
  • Work from heights as needed to change light bulbs, clean rain gutters, and other duties off the ground.
  • Stay current on and observe safety policies.
  • Be able to drive a dually truck and, if possible, an attached trailer.
  • Assist with special events and programs, including setup, implementation, and cleanup as needed.
  • Follow a regular schedule of three days per week (Monday through Friday), with days and hours set by the director and site head of maintenance. Must be able to work Saturdays and temporarily change schedule as needed.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
