Outdoor and Overnight Camp Manager

Responsible for developing, planning, implementing and managing high quality and engaging outdoor programming including summer resident camp and year-round outdoor programs for girls in grades K-12. The manager ensures that program development and implementation support the council’s program plan and strategic business goals, maintains strict adherence to safety and security guidelines, promotes the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and outcomes, and links to national program curricula.

Works in a variety of settings and is expected to live at camp for up to 9 weeks during the summer.
This is a safety sensitive position.

• Serve as on-site camp director of Camp Tall Chief Overnight Camp.
• Achieves council and department short-term and long-term goals related to camp and outdoor property programs.
• In collaboration with Human Resources and DCOE, lead hiring, training, and supervision of seasonal camp staff to ensure delivery of high-quality outdoor programming and adherence to safety guidelines.
• Provide direction and support to camp staff with program planning and execution, collaboration with co-workers and in handling crises, emergencies, behavioral, and medical response, as needed. Engage emergency action plan. Coordinate the completion of required forms and reports.
• Partner with seasonal camp staff and prepare an evaluation/summary of current season including inventories, staff evaluations, programs, camper reports, operations, facilities, and recommendations for the following season.
• Collaborate with the Property department to ensure camp facilities meet or exceed regulatory and council standards for safe and effective use.
• Maintain compliance with Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), American Camp Association (ACA) and council health and safety standards and procedures.
• Keep current with experiential, adventure and outdoor education trends.
• Promote the best use and development of camp facilities.
• Development and management of year-round programming events hosted by GSEOK outdoor volunteers that focus on outdoor experiences, skill building, and adventure through progressive experiences such as hiking, camping, canoeing, rappelling, and target sports.
• Commit to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness and promoting education programming to diverse communities and backgrounds.
• Prepares and coordinates budgets to ensure adherence to approved program events.
• Supports functions of the customer care process. Answers, problem-solves, manages and responds appropriately and timely to all inquiries including, but not limited to email, phone and walk-in customers.
• Assists in achieving the council’s retention goals for girls by development, coordination and delivery of quality events, curricula, and additional resources as driven by market needs.
• Cultivates relationships with appropriate community leaders, organizations, and businesses to support retention efforts.
• Develops and delivers surveys and coordinates social media marketing and promotional campaigns to publicize events widely.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in recreation, outdoor leadership, environmental studies, related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Three years or more of previous experience working with small and large groups of children, preferably in a leadership role such as cabin leader, after-school program leader, teacher, etc.
• Must have a valid driver's license within the state of employment.
