Position: Automotive Mechanic Foreperson
Reports to: Director of Transportation
Supervises: Transportation Department Mechanic Staff
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Valid State School Bus certification and all health and employment standards required.
- Technical training and/or appropriate years of experience set by Board.
- Good aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
- Satisfy all district requirements with regard to physical health and citizenship.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Position Goal: Provide for the safety of supervised staff and to keep all district vehicles and buses in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Supervise the diagnosing, assigning and repairing of district buses and automotive fleet
- Maintain inventory of supplies, repair parts and equipment.
- Establish an efficient and effective system of routine maintenance and preventive care of all buses and automotive fleet.
- Set up and work with parts inventory system for the receipt and issuance of parts and supplies and the keeping of records and inventories.
- Organize, assign, supervise and inspect the work of all mechanic personnel in the transportation department.
- Assist in the recruitment, training and evaluation of mechanic staff.
- Assist in monitoring/tracking maintenance budget. Ensure effective use of maintenance funds.
- Receive and assign state required daily inspection sheets.
- Drive bus routes and trips, as needed.
- Assist the Director and Assistant Director in coordinating Transportation Department functions.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

Adequate to exchange information.
