POSITION: Custodian, Full-time Evenings

STATUS: Classified, Non-Exempt

HOURS OF WORK: Monday-Friday; 3:00pm - 11:30pm, 8 hours, 247-day calendar

PAY RATE: $15.00 - $16.32, depending on experience

Requirements: Must pass a POET (post offer employment test - Physical assessment) - fit for duty screening. Must be 16 years of age or older.

POSITION SUMMARY: The custodial Night position is established to provide custodial services at the assigned site, ensuring an attractive, sanitary and safe environment for students, staff and visitors; performing a variety of special cleaning operations; and preparing facilities for scheduled activities and events. This role reports to Lead Custodian.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities
  • Arrange furniture and equipment for special events.
  • Attend unit meetings, training, and workshops for gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Clean assigned facilities and grounds for maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
  • Deliver a variety of items (supplies, mail, packages, furniture) to appropriate parties within site.
  • Inform students and site personnel regarding activities, safety issues and proper maintenance.
  • Monitor students, staff and visitors in and around assigned buildings to respond to emergencies and inform appropriate parties.
  • Monitor and adjust heating and cooling systems to provide a comfortable environment while conserving energy.
  • Perform summer maintenance (strip/wax floors, move furniture, painting) for summer construction.
  • Perform landscaping activities (mowing, trimming, cutting weeds, watering) to maintain school grounds.
  • Perform minor maintenance on custodial equipment, classroom furniture and fixtures (e.g., replace vacuum belts, bags, repair desks, change light bulbs).
  • Remove snow, ice, sand, debris to ensure access and safety.
  • Replenish classroom and restroom supplies.
  • Respond to inquiries from staff, students, parents, and visitors for information and appropriate action.
  • Respond to immediate safety and operational concerns (facility damage, vandalism, alarms) and notify appropriate personnel.
  • Secure facilities and grounds (doors, gates, alarms, lights) to minimize property damage, equipment loss and potential liability.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
  • Provide continual opportunities to impact the organization’s services.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrate understanding of verbal and written communication and ability to speak and write at a level sufficient to perform duties.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • High degree of motivation, responsibility and confidentiality.
  • Ability to compile, organize, and analyze data.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Highly collaborative team player.
  • Ability to self‑initiate areas of opportunity, make recommendations for improvement, and follow up to achieve results.
