This recruitment will be used to fill multiple positions. Shift schedules are subject to change based on facility needs. Custodians may be assigned to graveyard shifts during the Legislative Session, or required to work earlier hours for training, meetings, and special events. The Buildings & Grounds Division (B&G) is responsible for the Capitol Campus and Department of Enterprise Services (DES) managed building operations, stewardship, and historic preservation. B&G provides service to over 42 agencies, maintains, operates and preserves the 486-acre state Capitol Campus in Olympia, including more than 31 buildings, 18 public monuments, over 6,000 parking stalls, four state parks and a 260-acre lake.
B&G executes these responsibilities through the following service programs:
Facilities Operations, Grounds Operations, Leadership and Admin, Maintenance & Repairs, Support Services (Custodial).
About the Opportunity:
As a Custodian 1, you will help keep Capitol Campus buildings clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone who uses them. Your work will include tasks like emptying trash, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, and cleaning restrooms, offices, and common areas. You'll also clean glass and fixtures, restock supplies, and make sure furniture is in the right place. The job involves using cleaning products and equipment safely, attending trainings and meetings, and keeping track of your daily work.
Most importantly, you'll be helping DES provide a clean and healthy environment for our customers.
Some of What You'll Enjoy Doing Includes:
* Clean and disinfect surfaces such as doors, glass, walls, fixtures, telephones, and chalk trays using approved products and equipment.
* Empty trash cans, replace liners, and collect trash bags for disposal in dumpsters.
* Dust horizontal and vertical surfaces from high to low and pick up small items from floors.
* Vacuum traffic areas, under desks, stairwells, and other needed spaces with backpack vacuums; inspect and maintain equipment.
* Reposition furniture properly and secure areas after cleaning.
* Clean and disinfect restrooms, including sinks, toilets, urinals, partitions, floors, and mirrors; restock supplies as needed.
* Spot clean carpets, glass, entrances, and miscellaneous areas; sweep and mop floors.
* Complete daily timesheets, attend trainings and meetings, and perform other assigned duties.
* Other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications:
* Valid driver's license.
* Ability to move or transfer fifty (50) lbs.
* Successful completion of:
* Fingerprint background check conducted by the Washington State Patrol.
* Floor and carpet maintenance training.
* Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) training within 60 days of hire.
* Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions provided verbally and/or in writing.
* Ability to meet required productivity standards, deadlines, and work schedules.
* Ability to demonstrate ethical behavior.
* Commitment to respect the privacy and property of customers, and report signs of suspicions or criminal activity in the workplace.
In addition to the requirements above, a candidate must possess one (1) of the following required qualification options.
OPTION 1
* High school graduate or GED equivalent.
OPTION 2
* Six (6) months of experience working as a Custodian 1.
