Responsibilities- Perform routine safety and preventive maintenance inspections.
- Troubleshoot, repair and replace parts as needed.
- Diagnose electrical problems; install and repair electrical components and wiring.
- Diagnose and repair highly complex, electronically controlled systems, including but not limited to engine/transmission/ABS and various multiplexing systems.
- Repair and/or replace rear ends, drive lines, wheel bearings, and steering components.
- Inspect, test, adjust, repair, and or replace integral parts of vehicle engine, electronic fuel injection systems, alternator, water pump, and transmissions.
- Engineer, implement, and record various campaigns and modifications of vehicle systems.
- Use the Fleet‑Net database to record all time spent and parts used.
- Must pass a post‑job‑off‑er employment related physical examination including a drug and alcohol screen prior to appointment.
- Have a complete set of hand tools and toolbox at time of appointment.
- Be available to work shifts that include days, nights, weekends, and holidays (8‑hour shifts, rotational schedule).
- All safety‑sensitive positions are subject to the Drug and Alcohol Policy and include random drug testing.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Successful completion of appropriate schools relating to gasoline powered vehicles.
- Four (4) years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair OR any combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job.
- ASE Master Certification (premium pay for ASE Auto/Light Truck or Transit Coach).
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License with passenger endorsement – or with our training program be able to obtain within 6‑month probationary period.
- Working knowledge of Windows computer programs and data entry.
- Current knowledge in the use of electronic diagnostic equipment and methods.
- Knowledge of medium and heavy‑duty engines; transmissions, braking systems, steering and suspension systems.
- Must pass a post‑job‑off‑er employment related physical examination including a drug and alcohol screen prior to appointment.
- Must be willing to submit a criminal background investigation, the results of which must meet the agency's hiring criteria.
- Have a complete set of hand tools and toolbox at the time of appointment.
- Wage range is $39.94 to $48.70 per hour for Technician.
- Technicians can earn an additional $2.00 per hour for being ASE Certified.
- Cost of living adjustments typically effective January 1st.

- Technicians receive shift differential pay for swing (additional 3.5% of wage) and graveyard shifts (additional 6% of wage).

- $225 annual safety shoe allowance.
- $675 annual tool allowance.
- Up to $200 per year for the cost of prescription safety glasses upon presentation of a receipt.
