We install, remodel, service, and finance all the products we sell. We also repair many product brands we don’t sell.
Summary
In the role of Technician Apprentice, you will play a pivotal role by assisting the Warehouse Lead in performing a variety of welding functions, including layout, fit and fabricating metal components for the Company, assembling structural forms by using welding techniques, metallurgy, and engineering requirements. This position also assists in the responsibilities of handling outgoing shipments for the Warehouse and general housekeeping duties.
Duties
- Supports the Company’s mission, vision, and core values
- Ensures that all safety procedures are performed in compliance with the Company’s safety policies and all federal, state, and local laws & regulations, and attends monthly safety meetings
- Assists in Welding
- Lays out, positions, and secures product(s) according to specifications
- Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques
- Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment
- Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
- Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes
- Removes rough spots from work pieces using a portable grinder, hand file, or scraper
- Assists in Shipping
- Reads customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed and/or shipped
- Follows packaging procedures to ensure the safety of shipment
- Loads installer’s vehicles with items to be delivered to customers
- Operates forklift and pallet jack to transport shipments
- Assists customers and installers when help is needed
- Completes product deliveries as necessary
- Ensures warehouses are cleaned, and housekeeping guidelines are maintained at all times
- Responsible for facilities maintenance duties as needed (i.e., snow removal)
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Requirements
- Knowledge of the construction industry and products
- Knowledge of welding techniques
- Ability to read blueprints and technical specifications
- Proficient in the use of hand tools
- Ability to improvise with products and tools as needed
- Ability to wear a respirator as required
- Ability to operate a forklift
- Critical thinking and analytical/mathematical skills
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Effective skills of listening, verbal, and written communication
- Ability to work under pressure and independently with some guidance
Preferred Qualifications
- Hollow metal door and frame experience is preferred
- Previous welder experience is preferred
- Previous warehouse and/or inventory experience is preferred
Work Conditions
- Non-climate-controlled environment – potentially working in all weather conditions.
- Frequently sitting, standing, bending, and lifting up to 25 - 100 lbs
- Must be able to do continuous standing, occasional sitting, climb stairs/ladders, and others
