This is a part-time non-negotiated position.

Position

Purpose:

Primary purpose is to keep the school building in a clean and orderly condition performing any combination of the following duties: sweep, mop, scrub (operate scrubbers), clean hallways, cafeteria, kitchen, and school rooms; empty trash and garbage containers; maintain building by performing minor and routine painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, and other related maintenance activities using hand tools; replace air‑conditioner filters;

clean snow and debris from sidewalk; mow lawn, sports field, trim shrubbery, and cultivate flowers.

  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms.
  • Vacuum, sweep, and mop floors and stairs.
  • Clean sinks, countertops, microwaves, and refrigerators in break rooms.
  • Restock supplies in bathrooms, break rooms, and common areas.
  • Empty all trash cans and replace liners, clean receptacles as necessary.
  • Dust and clean office desks and furniture.
  • Clean windows and window sills.
  • Follow approved procedures for cleanup and proper disposal of bodily fluids.
  • Secure premises by locking doors and windows.

Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment: May require use of hand tools (hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, sockets), power tools (impacts, drills), weed eater, leaf blower, washing machine, carpet machine, and other basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with OPS’s guidelines for equipment use.

Travel: Local travel may be required.

Essential Functions
  • STANDING: Occasional – Monitor trash cans during lunch periods; work on ladders changing light bulbs and cleaning vents.
  • WALKING: Frequent – Operate floor scrubber, push mower, carpet machine, weed eater, leaf blower; spread salt and gravel during icy weather; access different areas of the building and campus (machine shed); walk on various terrains, during all weather conditions.
  • SITTING: Rarely–Occasional – Operate large mower, mow large field, use computer to check emails.
  • LIFTING: Occasional – Daily lifting of bags of trash 12–40 lb.; lift cafeteria tables weighing up to 55 lb.; lift and reposition other cleaning equipment; occasional lifting of calcium chloride (salt) 50 lb. from pallet to spreader.
  • CARRYING: Occasional – Move equipment, tools, and materials as indicated in examples above.
  • PUSHING/PULLING: Occasional – Operate floor scrubber, push mower, pull out bleachers with hook; lift to waist height; sustained forces vary.
  • CLIMBING: Occasional – Ascend or descend ladders for lighting, boiler room, portable classrooms, and swimming pool; use scaffolding for prolonged ceiling cleaning.
  • BALANCE: Frequent – Work on uneven terrain, uneven ladders, stairs, and overhead tasks.
  • STOOPING: Occasional – Access lower walls; work at floor level when cleaning.
  • KNEELING: Occasional – Work at floor level cleaning gum and other materials from the floor.
  • CROUCHING: Occasional – Work at floor level cleaning tasks.
  • REACHING: Frequent – Use tools; operate equipment (scrubber, carpet cleaning). Occasional – Overhead reaching for air vents, light bulbs, repair or replace ceiling tiles.
