Stipends added to base pay rate ($2.74/hr dept head stipend; $0.29/hr evening stipend), Health, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Paid Holidays, Vacation, and Sick Leave, and an excellent retirement plan.
General
Summary:
This full‑time, 12‑month position requires a dynamic individual ready to guide and inspire a custodial team of approximately 14 custodians. The department head ensures all staff follow safety and cleaning protocols, manages weekend and activity scheduling, and performs routine manual labor associated with daily cleaning, security, and safe operation of District facilities. Responsibilities include maintaining supplies, following budgetary guidelines, and performing tasks required by the prescribed housekeeping program.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with co‑workers, staff, students, and the general public are required.
- Ensure appropriate workforce scheduling for weekends and activities.
- Train, motivate, and monitor the custodial workforce.
- Maintain a welcoming first‑fifty‑feet appearance inside and outside the building.
- Change plastic bags, clean restrooms, classrooms, chalkboards, whiteboards, erasers, pencil sharpeners, walls, ceilings, light fixtures, glass, blinds, and draperies.
- Ensure monthly PMs, safety inspections, and supply orders are completed accurately and on time.
- Keep restrooms supplied with paper products, soap, and other items.
- Operate the housekeeping floor‑care program, including dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, neutralizing, waxing, spot cleaning, stain and gum removal, and floor shampooing (15%).
- Dust horizontal and vertical surfaces.
- Keep ceiling tiles in place.
- Provide services for special activities.
- Identify and report items requiring repair actions.
- Collaborate closely with office staff and fellow workers to provide feedback on building maintenance actions.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to provide clear direction through verbal and written communications.
- Knowledge of basic cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to organize.
- Computer proficiency and effective communication skills.
- Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength.
- Ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain acceptable working relations with supervisors, staff, students, the general public, and fellow workers.
- Willingness to work overtime as required.
- Presents a neat and clean appearance.
- Ability to complete required training.
- Ability to work from ladders and scaffolding.
- Preferred: ability to perform duties with minimum supervision.
- Demonstrates knowledge of proper usage of products and equipment.
- Strong leadership and team coordination skills.
