Custodian II (Elementary Day Custodian & DSAC) (Group
4)

Reports To:

District Custodial Manager

General Summary

This position must achieve and maintain the highest possible standards of custodial responsibilities. The Custodian II position is responsible for maintaining supplies and adhering to budgetary guidelines. It requires routine manual labor associated with daily cleaning and security, and safe operation of District facilities. Employees must have moderate physical strength. Typical duties include cleaning classrooms, lecture halls, study halls, cafeterias, libraries, gymnasiums, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, athletic areas, equipment rooms, hallways, common areas, and outside and other building and office areas, lamp replacement, operation of basic mechanical cleaning equipment, trash removal from grounds, playground watering, sidewalk sweeping, and other housekeeping and snow removal tasks.

Excellent interpersonal skills and relationships with co-workers, staff, students, and the public are required.

Essential Job Functions

1. General Duties (60%)

  • Picks up and empties trash.
  • Maintains appearance of first fifty feet inside and outside for the public, students, and staff.
  • Snow removal and ensures outside grounds are clean.
  • Provides services for the lunch program.
  • Changes plastic bags, cleans restrooms, classrooms, chalkboards, whiteboards, erasers, pencils, walls, ceilings, light fixtures, glass, blinds, draperies.
  • Ensures monthly PMs, safety inspections, and monthly supply orders and other reports are completed accurately on time.
  • Keeps restrooms supplied with paper products, soap, and other items.
  • Inputs Maximo work orders.

2. Performs operations associated with the housekeeping floor care program (25%)

  • Dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, neutralizing, waxing, spot cleaning stain and gum removal, and shampooing of floors.

3. Additional Duties (15%)

  • Removes and replaces defective lights.
  • Cleans mechanical grills.
  • Dusts horizontal and vertical surfaces.
  • Keeps ceiling tiles in place.
  • Provides services for special activities.
  • Identifies and reports items requiring repair actions.
  • Works closely with office staff and fellow workers to provide feedback on building maintenance actions.
Qualifications

Education Level: High School diploma or equivalent

Other Requirements:

  • Basic cleaning methods, materials and equipment knowledge.
  • Ability to organize.
  • Computer proficiency and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength.
  • Ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain acceptable working relations with supervisors, staff, students, the general public and fellow workers.
  • Work overtime as required.
  • Presents a neat and clean appearance.
  • Ability to complete required training.
  • Ability to work from ladder and scaffolding.

Preferred:

  • Able to perform assigned duties with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper usage of products and equipment.
Special Requirements

Physical demands:
Standing, walking, sitting, lifting 60 lbs max, carrying 50 feet, pushing/pulling 70 lbs of force, climbing/balancing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling, speaking/hearing, seeing/depth perception/color.
