Job DescriptionThis is a full‑time, 12‑month position at Abbott Elementary. The Custodian II (Daytime) is responsible for maintaining custodial standards, supplies, and safety, including routine manual labor, cleaning, security, and safe operation of district facilities.
Essential Job Functions- Picks up and empties trash.
- Maintains appearance of interior and exterior spaces for public, students, and staff.
- Snow removal and ensures outside grounds are clean.
- Provides services for the lunch program.
- Changes plastic bags and cleans restrooms, classrooms, chalkboards, whiteboards, erasers, pencil sharpeners, walls, ceilings, light fixtures, glass, blinds, and draperies.
- Ensures monthly preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and supply orders are completed accurately and on time.
- Keeps restrooms supplied with paper products, soap, and other items.
- Inputs Maximo work orders.
Floor care (25%): dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, neutralizing, waxing, spot‑cleaning stains, gum removal, and shampooing.
Additional duties (15%):
- Removes and replaces defective lights.
- Cleans mechanical grills.
- Dusts horizontal and vertical surfaces.
- Maintains ceiling tiles.
- Provides services for special activities.
- Reports items requiring repair.
- Collaborates with office staff on building maintenance.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Basic cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
- Organizational skills.
- Computer proficiency and effective communication.
- Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength.
- Ability to operate mechanical cleaning equipment.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Works well with supervisors, staff, students, and the public.
- Willingness to work overtime.
- Maintains neat appearance.
- Completes required training.
- Manages work from ladder and scaffolding.
Preferred:
- Performs duties with minimum supervision.
- Demonstrates knowledge of product and equipment usage.
- Standing, walking, sitting.
- Lifting up to 60 lb.
- Carrying up to 50 ft.
- Pushing/pulling up to 70 lb of force.
- Climbing/balancing.
- Stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling.
- Reaching/handling.
- Speaking/hearing, seeing, depth perception, color vision.
Position Type: Full‑Time
Pay: $21.12 per hour
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
