Custodian of Facilities
The Custodian of Facilities works closely with the Facilities team members to ensure that all aspects of safety and cleanliness are met within the building. This position has a big impact on the experience of our visitors and all team members from different departments.
This part-time position is scheduled from Saturday to Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with possible variations according to operational needs, including special events and facility rentals.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Clean all areas of the Museum, including bathrooms, floors, windows, exhibits, and garbage collection.
- Respond quickly to the needs of visitors and team members from all departments.
- Identify and address safety concerns.
- Prepare spaces for special events, facility rentals, and internal meetings, including, among other tasks, the assembly and disassembly of rooms.
- Help with the training of new employees and with the closing procedures of the cafeteria.
- Prioritize customer service and assist visitors while in the public areas of the Museum.
- Perform other related tasks assigned by the department.
Qualifications and Preferred
Skills:
- Ability to be an effective team member and maintain positive relationships with visitors and Museum staff.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- High level of responsibility, punctuality, and reliability.
- Ability to manage time, prioritize responsibilities, and solve problems when necessary.
Physical Requirements:
- Walk, bend, stoop, and move continuously throughout the workday.
- Stand and walk for extended periods while performing cleaning tasks.
- Move through small and confined spaces, such as mechanical rooms or limited access areas, and have the ability to climb stairs.
- Lift and transport objects up to 50 pounds, as well as push, pull, or maneuver heavy tools, equipment, and materials.
- Transport supplies safely across different types of surfaces and terrains.
- Work in different temperatures, including outdoor areas and spaces without climate control.
- Tolerate exposure to dust, dirt, and other particles suspended in the air.
- Use standard building maintenance chemicals safely and frequently.
