Position Summary

The Facility and Maintenance worker is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and functional school environment for students, staff, and visitors. Duties include custodial services, groundskeeping, event setup and teardown, and general facility maintenance. The position requires physical labor, including lifting, carrying, and moving materials weighing up to 75 pounds.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education:

    High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Knowledge and Training

Ability to safely operate custodial and groundskeeping equipment. Familiarity with proper handling of cleaning chemicals and personal protective equipment. Training is available.

Work Experience

Previous custodial, maintenance, groundskeeping, or facility experience preferred.

Work Hours

Full-time, year-round schedule. 10:00 am to 6:30 pm

Will require occasional evening, weekend, or special-event work to support school programs and community functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Facility and Maintenance worker’s responsibilities include:

Custodial Services

Maintains cleanliness and sanitation standards throughout school facilities.

  • Clean classrooms, hallways, offices, restrooms, cafeterias, and common areas.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and sanitize surfaces.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste properly.
  • Clean up spills, accidents, and messes created during school activities.
  • Maintain cleanliness standards through the school day and after school events.
Groundskeeping

Keeps school grounds safe, attractive, and accessible year-round.

  • Mow lawns, trim grass, and maintain landscaped areas.
  • Remove weeds, leaves, snow, and debris from school grounds.
  • Maintain sidewalks, parking lots, playgrounds, and athletic areas.
  • Assist with seasonal grounds maintenance projects
Event Setup and Support

Prepares spaces for school events and returns them to daily use.

  • Set up and arrange tables, chairs, equipment, and other materials for school events, meetings, and activities.
  • Tear down and return spaces to their original configuration after events.
  • Assist staff with facility needs during special events and community functions.
General Facility Maintenance

Supports the ongoing upkeep and functionality of school buildings and grounds.

  • Perform routine inspections of school facilities and grounds.
  • Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and repair needs.
  • Assist with minor repairs and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Move furniture, supplies, and equipment as needed.
Safety and Compliance

Upholds a safe environment for the entire school community.

  • Follow all school safety procedures and workplace regulations.
  • Properly use cleaning chemicals, equipment, and personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.
