The City of Onalaska is seeking to hire a Facility Maintenance Technician and Lead Facility Maintenance Technician. These are considered Limited Term Employment positions. Scheduled hours vary for each event, but may include: mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends. An employee in these positions are responsible for a variety of tasks related to building maintenance and event functions. Work is performed according to the Building Supervisor.
EssentialJob Functions
- Complete the set-up and take down of equipment from events and return the building to its original condition before and after each event.
- Enforce rules of the Omni Center regarding the general public by ensuring safety protocols when on premises.
- Recognize any problems with the building, its contents, equipment, or supplies and report any questionable changes to the supervisor or maintenance lead by written or verbal communication.
- Assist in the maintenance of the ice, which includes resurfacing, flooding, patching and edging as well as any other duties deemed necessary.
- Assist in the maintenance of the building to maintain the best possible condition. Duties include bathroom cleaning and restocking, floor care, windows, and custodial cleaning, as well as outside maintenance.
- Perform opening procedures for the building during events and properly secure the building each night.
- Ensure customers or prospective customers needs are reasonably met during an event to the best of your ability or seek advice from the immediate supervisor.
- Ensure cleanliness and safety of the building and surrounding grounds.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and establish effective working relationships with the general public, associates, volunteers, and staff, and have the ability to calmly approach and solve problems under stressful circumstances, maintain and promote harmony in the workplace, and be flexible.
- Contribute to a cooperative working effort by demonstrating a willingness to perform other job-related work as needed or requested. Assist others and special projects as scheduled or requested.
- Lead a crew to complete the set-up and take down of equipment from events and return the building to its original condition before and after each event.
- Assist in the maintenance of the ice, which includes resurfacing, flooding, patching and edging as well as any other duties deemed necessary.
- Provide direction to other part-time staff in the absence of a supervisor.
Wage range for these seasonal, limited-term positions are $14.00 to $19.00 per hour depending on qualifications, budget and/or position. Flexible scheduling available. There are no benefits associated with limited-term positions.

High School diploma or equivalent. Must be 18 years old minimum. Good oral and written communication skills. Effectively work on own with little or no supervision. Must effectively carry out oral or written instructions. Valid drivers’ license with good driving record. Lead Facility Maintenance Technicians require prior experience with facility maintenance, ice arena operations and/or custodial duties.
