Position Summary
The Painter is responsible for maintaining and improving the appearance of the nursing home through professional interior and exterior painting, surface preparation, minor drywall repair, and finishing work. This role helps create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for residents, families, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Interior Painting
1. Prepare interior surfaces by cleaning, sanding, scraping, patching, and priming walls, doors, trim, and other surfaces.
2. Apply paint, stain, varnish, or other finishes using brushes, rollers, and sprayers.
3. Repair minor drywall damage, nail holes, cracks, and imperfections before painting.
4. Protect furniture, flooring, and equipment with drop cloths and masking materials.
5. Maintain color consistency and finish quality throughout resident rooms, hallways, offices, and common areas.
Exterior Painting
1. Prepare exterior surfaces by power washing, scraping, sanding, and priming siding, trim, railings, and other structures.
2. Apply exterior paints and protective coatings to buildings and outdoor fixtures.
3. Perform seasonal touch-ups and maintenance to preserve curb appeal and protect surfaces from weather damage.
General Maintenance & Safety
1. Inspect painted surfaces regularly and identify areas needing repair or repainting.
2. Safely operate ladders and painting equipment.
3. Follow all safety procedures, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of paints and chemicals.
4. Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
5. Coordinate work schedules to minimize disruption to residents and facility operations.
6. Assist with other maintenance duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Administrator as needed
Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. 1–3 years of professional painting experience, including both interior and exterior work preferred, not necessary.
3. Knowledge of painting techniques, surface preparation, and finishing materials.
4. Ability to perform minor drywall repair and basic carpentry-related prep work.
5. Ability to work safely at heights and lift/move up to 50 pounds.
6. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
7. Good communication and teamwork skills.
8. Experience in healthcare, hospitality, or senior living settings is a plus.
Working Conditions
1. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
2. Frequent standing, bending, climbing, and use of ladders or scaffolding.
3. Exposure to paint fumes, dust, and cleaning chemicals; appropriate protective equipment is provided.
