The Managing Director Tax is a full-time, role based in Schaumburg, IL, with flexibility for some work from home. This role leads the firm’s tax practice, overseeing complex individual, corporate, partnership, and trust tax engagements from planning through review and final delivery. Responsibilities include managing and mentoring tax staff, setting technical and performance standards, and ensuring high-quality, timely service for a diverse client portfolio.
The Managing Director Tax will maintain and deepen client relationships, provide proactive tax planning and consulting, and identify opportunities to improve processes and expand services. Day-to-day activities include technical review of tax returns, research on complex tax issues, monitoring regulatory changes, collaboration with other firm leaders on strategy, and participation in business development and firm governance.
- Advanced tax expertise in federal, state, and local taxation for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts; strong tax research and planning capabilities.
- Leadership experience managing tax teams, including mentoring, performance management, workflow oversight, and fostering a collaborative, inclusive culture.
- Client service skills, including relationship management, clear communication of complex tax concepts, and the ability to provide practical, strategic advice.
- Strong technical proficiency with tax preparation and research software, general accounting tools, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required; advanced degree in Taxation or related field strongly preferred.
- Several years of progressive experience in public accounting with significant responsibility for tax engagements and practice management.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines during peak seasons, and maintain high quality and ethical standards.
- Experience with business development, networking, and participation in professional organizations is beneficial.
- Commitment to ongoing professional education and staying current with evolving tax laws and regulations.
