We are seeking an experienced Content Writer with a strong journalism background to support breaking news and ongoing coverage. This is an ongoing contract role (3+ months to start), focused on writing timely, accurate, and engaging content for a national audience. You will play a key role in discovering, pitching, prioritizing, and producing stories that matter, with an emphasis on clear editorial judgment and cross-functional collaboration to ensure accuracy and relevance.

In this role, you will:

• Monitor multiple news sources, feeds, and platforms to identify the latest and most relevant stories for a national audience.
• Write clear, accurate, and compelling content including:
  • News articles and features
  • Short- and long-form scripts
  • Newsletters and other editorial content

• Cover breaking news in real time, quickly gathering facts and context while maintaining accuracy and editorial standards.
• Pitch original story ideas regularly, with a focus on timely, relatable, and entertaining content that connects to current events.
• Ensure all content adheres to journalistic standards, including fact-checking, source verification, and appropriate attribution.
• Optimize story framing and structure for maximum clarity, engagement, and relevance.

The ideal candidate will bring a solid foundation in journalism and news writing, including:

• Professional experience as a journalist, reporter, or news/content writer (digital, print, or broadcast).
• Demonstrated ability to write clean, accurate copy on deadline, especially in breaking news situations.
• Experience working in a newsroom or fast-paced editorial environment where prioritization and quick decision-making are essential.
