Early Childhood Special Education Consultant

Provide leadership and technical assistance to help educators develop appropriate educational programs for students with disabilities ages 3 to 5.
QUALIFICATIONS- Master's Degree
- Valid Texas teaching certificate in Special Education or current professional licensure in a related field with experience in early childhood settings
- Early Childhood certification preferred
- Five or more years of experience providing direct instruction or related services to children with disabilities (ages 3-5) in early childhood settings
- Experience with testing and evaluating students with disabilities
- Experience facilitating professional development or adult learning
- Demonstrated proficiency in coaching and mentoring adult professionals
- Proven history of effective leadership within special education or early learning programs
- Strong technical knowledge regarding the selection, implementation, and integration of Assistive (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems to enhance communication and curriculum access for young children
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement family engagement strategies, including facilitating parent training, supporting transitions from ECI (Part
C) to school-based services (Part
B), and fostering collaborative home-school partnerships
- Utilizes a variety of data from stakeholders to identify the needs of Early Childhood Special Education Students
- Formulates objectives to meet identified needs
- Maintains documentation of component services
- Evaluates the extent to which objectives have been met
- Collaborates with all agencies and programs serving preschool children to determine needs
- Collaborates with Student, Family, and Community Engagement Network members to determine needs
- Assists the Director by making recommendations for budget preparation
- Produces documentation to support expenditures as authorized by the Director
- Utilizes cost effective methods for reaching identified objectives
- Demonstrates leadership in the development of decisions and innovations affecting the education of ECSE students
- Promotes and inspires initiative among LEA and program staff, improving and supporting programs serving ECSE students
- Demonstrates leadership in assisting and supporting teachers of ECSE students
- Demonstrates good communication techniques and utilizes proper communication channels with administrators, teachers, students, parents, agencies, community, and ESC staff
- Effectively communicates ideas and information to groups or individuals
- Responds to LEA's requests for assistance through professional development and technical assistance
- Plans and provides training in current instructional practices or skills related to the education of students served in ECSE settings
- Disseminates SFCE parent survey information to LEAs
- Assists general and special education teachers in the implementation of educational practices that enhance learning for all students
- Assists in the dissemination of information between ECI programs and LEAs to facilitate the transition of students into LEA programs
- Assists in the dissemination of information between ECSE services and LEA Kindergarten programs to facilitate the transition of students served in ECSE settings into Kindergarten programs
- Assists LEAs and SSAs in the form of technical assistance, training, and information dissemination on Early Childhood Outcomes
- Assists LEAs in the implementation of innovative programs for early childhood ECSE students
- Disseminates information concerning curriculum, instructional strategies, and materials appropriate for ECSE students
- Assist teachers/administrators with students exhibiting challenging behaviors.
- Coordinates Child Find activities at the regional level
- Assists LEAs to increase the percentage of completed parent surveys for SFCE
- Demonstrates professional courtesy during personal interaction with LEA and ESC staff
- Responds promptly to requests/inquiries by LEAs/agencies
- Demonstrates a willingness to cooperate with other staff members for the achievement of common goals
- Displays an attitude of personal and professional concern in group and individual settings
- Seeks training in professional areas and provides up-to-date information regarding the education of ECSE students
- Maintains self-control and good working relations with other staff or LEA personnel when facing problems and frustrations
