Key Responsibilities
  • Provides academic advising to an assigned caseload of undergraduate students to supplement faculty advising. Prepares and maintains associated student records.
  • Addresses student academic concerns and provides referrals to campus resources. Builds links with other university offices and support services such as Academic Success Programs, Education Abroad, Student Case Management, and various Campus Life partners.
  • Assists with academic orientation activities. Assist Senior Academic Advisors in further activities such as workshops, programs, and webinars. Serves on OUE committees and working groups.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited undergraduate institution and two years of professional academic advising experience, three years is preferred OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A master’s degree in a relevant field, including higher education or a liberal arts field.
  • Three years professional experience working as an academic advisor in an academic affairs office or similar setting.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds including at‑risk and/or first‑generation students.
  • Experience with student success programs focusing on retention and graduation.
Additional Job Details

This level of advisor is responsible for providing full‑time advising services to an assigned caseload of undergraduate students. In addition, the Advisor II manages committee work and assists Senior Advisors and Advising Leadership with programs and proactive outreach initiatives.

Responsibilities include:

  • Advising a caseload of students:
    Exploratory/pre‑major advising. Proactive advising for special populations. First‑Year mandatory meetings. Advising students on academic notice.
  • General advice, referral to campus resources, and policy/procedure clarification delivered via appointments, email, phone, drop‑in, and Add/Drop/Swap advising.
  • Pre‑registration advising and Transfer student onboarding in summer as well as Oxford Continuee onboarding twice per year.
  • Facilitate and advise on academic actions such as in completes, course withdrawals, leaves of absence, transfers, readmissions, and underloads/overloads.
  • Programming:
    Participate in ECAS annual orientation activities. Participate in ECS 101 as well as annual orientation and graduation activities, and annual orientations.
  • Work with Deans of Academic Advising and Support to resolve complex student cases.
  • Assist with issues impacting academic success: CARE reports, Exceptions after the deadline due to extenuating circumstances, Referrals to partner offices.

In addition to Advisor I duties, Academic Advisors II will also:

  • Assist Senior Academic Advisors in further activities such as workshops, programs, and webinars.
  • Serve on OUE committees and working groups.
Position Tasks and Remote Work

Position tasks are generally required to be performed in‑person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
