Under the direction of the Child Service Manager, the Child Service Coordinator provides expertise and knowledge while providing classroom coverage across various sites and classrooms throughout the program, ensuring the maintenance of high‑quality standards. This role involves supporting children and teachers in all aspects of classroom management and learning. Additionally, it includes contributing to the development and implementation of educational plans aligned with Head Start Performance Standards and other program requirements and tailoring strategies to meet the diverse needs of each enrolled child.

This position is headquartered at Easterseals Chicago Location at 1939 W 13th Street, Chicago, IL 60608.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Planning and Program Services:
  • Work in collaboration with Regional Directors and Site Directors to determine disability and mental health needs of each center. Provide training and coaching around how to create and implement behavior plans as needed.
  • Perform a key role in the implantation and adoption of the pyramid framework with staff, partners, and parents.
  • Provide disability and social emotional training to staff, teachers, and parents in accordance with the Head Start Standards.
  • Assist in program planning for social emotional and disability services based on analysis of child, program, and family outcomes.
  • Provide guidance to staff on selecting, implementing, and interpreting IEPs, social emotional screenings, and assessment tools and findings.
  • Participate in enrollment and recruitment by reviewing data and ensuring that we meet the required disability percentages outlined in the Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Ensure consistent mental health and disability guidance and professional development in the assigned region.
  • Assist in program planning for mental health and disability services based on analysis of child, program, and family outcomes.
  • Ensure that the structures and systems for children with challenging behaviors are being fully implemented. Develop and implement a system to ensure that all children identified as benefiting from further evaluation are referred and evaluated according to timelines.
  • Develop and implement a system for supporting children with behavioral concerns, including a behavior review process and behavior plans.
Record Keeping, Reporting, and Communication:
  • Establish a data driven, tiered approach for supporting directly operated centers, home-based, and partner site classrooms and for allocation of mental health and social emotional resources.
  • Collaborate with Regional Directors to help determine where to deploy resources and how to best meet the social emotional needs within their region.
  • Participate in the self‑assessment process and strategic planning.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled content areas and other meetings.
Ongoing Monitoring:
  • Travel to Easterseals and partner sites regularly.
  • Participate in monitoring systems to ensure the active supervision and safety of children so that no child is ever left alone or unsupervised.
  • Provide written and oral observations and strengths‑based feedback to classrooms and home‑based educators.
  • Conduct classroom and individual child observations and provide feedback with individualized strategies.
Human Resources:
  • Implement reflective and relationship‑based practices.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to the Instructional Coordinators, Instructional Coaches, and paraprofessionals.
