Augusta University Online (AU Online) is an online learning technology department that supports faculty in developing leading‑edge online instruction.
The Assistant Director for Instructional Design, Engagement and Assistance (IDEA) works under the Director of Instructional Design to support the creation of innovative online courses and programs, provide personalized technical and pedagogical faculty support, manage faculty and student feedback collection and reporting, and supervise the Instructional Technology Coordinator and the Instructional Technology Specialist. The position focuses on managing online course technologies and faculty development, with significant work within the LMS to deliver support.
Oversight of the LMS itself is not the responsibility.
- Consult with faculty on effective best practices in online teaching.
- Communicate with faculty on a scheduled basis to encourage ongoing support.
- Address faculty requests for assistance promptly.
- Collect instructor feedback on courses to share with the Director.
- Recommend changes to courses based on faculty requests via Mojo Helpdesk.
- Maintain a log of changes made to course sections and primary shells.
- Use a coaching stance for teaching observations and support.
- Conduct needs assessments to determine faculty development needs.
- Lead development and implementation of faculty development opportunities (pedagogical and technical) offered in various modalities such as online resources, just‑in‑time learning modules, professional learning communities, and synchronous sessions.
- Collaborate with IDEA team members and university faculty to develop instructor development resources.
- Generate detailed reports of faculty engagement within the Community for Learning and Teaching for the Director.
- Manage the faculty recognition program.
- Implement a faculty communication plan.
- Manage opportunities for faculty and students to provide feedback on courses and the overall AUO experience.
- Report data to the Director on a regular basis.
- Make informed recommendations to the IDEA Team for changes based on faculty and student feedback.
- Serve as the voice of faculty in discussions within the IDEA Team.
- Serve as the Approver within OneUSG for time off and other matters.
- Provide support and coaching on time management and task prioritization.
- Establish a collaborative relationship with those in the two roles.
- Update the Director weekly on projects, workload, and performance.
- Ensure all work plans, logs, and related documentation are accessible to the Director 24/7.
- Mentor the two team members in their job roles and professional growth.
- Continuously update and improve knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to faculty development, course data collection, and leadership.
- Present or publish scholarship related to educational technology, instructional design, higher education, and teaching and learning.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field from an accredited institution, with five or more years of experience in higher education supporting faculty and online education, at least one year of teaching experience, and experience in data collection to inform continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience designing asynchronous, synchronous, or hybrid instruction.
- Successful online and/or hybrid teaching experience in higher education.
- Demonstrated success working with faculty to improve teaching and learning and their use of learning management systems.
