Part-Time Chemistry & Physical Science Instructor; Online

ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR – CHEMISTRY/PHYSICAL SCIENCE

Malcolm X College is seeking a Part‑time Adjunct Instructor to teach Chemistry/Physical Science. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in the classroom through effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverse needs and foster critical thinking and problem‑solving.

• Design courses to meet learning outcomes and promote students’ active participation in their own learning.
• Create an effective learning environment that fosters students’ intellectual curiosity and helps them to problem‑solve using discipline‑specific thinking strategies.
• Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure classroom instruction leads to student learning and attainment of learning outcomes.
• Help students reach their academic, personal and career goals and foster a safe environment that respects diversity of people and ideas by modeling respect and conveying confidence in every student’s ability to learn.
• Contribute to and provide leadership in students’ academic and professional communities, promoting collaboration and teamwork among members of these communities.

• Master’s degree in a physical science (Chemistry, Physics, etc.) – or Master’s degree and 18 graduate semester hours in Physical Science/Chemistry.
• Teaching experience preferred – either higher education or high school levels.
• Knowledge of Brightspace Learning Management System or similar LMS, preferred.
• Prior experience with online teaching (via Zoom) and/or online teaching certification is strongly preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with a diverse group of staff and students required.
• Experience with a diverse, multilingual student population desired, as is a commitment to the open‑access mission of the community college.

Salary Range: $800 – $943 per contact hour. The rate paid is in accordance with City Colleges approved salary scale.
