Emory Law is an intimate, collegial, and friendly school located in a residential part of the thriving city of Atlanta. Mac Millan Law Library is a welcoming and supportive place to work. We invite candidates with at least four years of experience to apply.
This is a full-time, hybrid position and is available immediately.
Under the general supervision of the Associate Law Librarian for Research Services, Research Services librarians provide high-quality legal and non-legal research assistance to law library users, including students, faculty, members of the local bar, and the general public. This includes providing classroom instruction in a variety of settings, ranging from for-credit instruction to one-off sessions; providing scholarship support for law faculty;
interacting with a variety of patron groups while staffing the library's Reference Desk; and supporting and participating in outreach programs targeting both students and faculty.
Additional Responsibilities include:
* Staffing the Mac Millan Law Library's Reference Desk and assisting users with legal research methods and materials (a few evening and weekend hours may occasionally be required);
* Designing and teaching one to two upper-level, topic-specific Advanced Legal Research courses for inclusion in our robust teaching rotation which includes up to four one-credit courses per semester;
* Working with a variety of student groups - including faculty research assistants, journal students, international students, and law school graduate students - to assist with their library and legal research needs;
* Supporting Emory Law's approximately 35 Tenure/Tenure-track faculty by participating in the Library's Faculty Services Program which supports faculty scholarship as well as some classroom assistance for seminar courses;
* Creating and maintaining online research guides, bibliographies, and other materials that enhance access to legal information;
* Serving on law library and university library committees;
* Engaging in professional development activities, scholarship, and service; and
* Performing other associated duties as required.
Qualifications
Required:
* A JD from an ABA-accredited law school (or equivalent) and an MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution or a BA in Law with an MA in LIS from an Accelerated Masters Program (AMP). Candidates who will complete their degrees prior to the start date will be considered;
* Minimum of four years library experience including experience providing library reference (or other types of customer service experience) and conducting legal and non-legal research;
* Strong communication skills; including a high comfort level interacting with colleagues and a wide range of library users;
* Demonstrated ability to work independently within a framework of assigned responsibilities, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
Preferred:
* Demonstrated success in teaching or public speaking; and
* Desire to participate in professional law librarianship activities at regional and national levels.
