Duties and Responsibilities

Full time. $60,000 - $70,000/year. Benefits‑eligible employees have access to a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, retirement, paid leave, wellness programs, and tuition benefits. Benefit eligibility varies based on employee classification and appointment.
Loyola University Chicago is seeking a Lecturer of French to teach all levels (beginning through advanced) of French and Francophone language, literatures, and cultures; teach courses in literature in translation; work with colleagues to coordinate language instruction across multiple sections; advise students regarding courses of study; prepare and grade assignments and exams; collaborate with the French section head and department chair to develop curriculum for all levels of instruction as above.

Qualifications

PhD in French and Francophone Studies or related field plus 3 years of related experience. Will accept any level of experience in the following skills:
Teach French language courses ranging from foundational to advanced proficiency; conduct classroom instruction and facilitate academic discussions on French and Francophone texts and cultural materials; assess student performance and integrate authentic cultural resources into the language‑learning framework to foster advanced linguistic and cultural competency; teach courses on French and Francophone literatures and cultures, including analysis of literary texts and of Francophone cinema;

apply interdisciplinary methodologies to examine intersections of the Francophone world with global religious, political, and socio‑cultural frameworks; design and develop comprehensive course syllabi and instructional frameworks for French language and Francophone literature courses; architect and administer rigorous assessment tools, including examinations and analytical projects, to evaluate student proficiency and academic progress; coordinate and synchronize pedagogical content and instructional methodologies in collaboration with faculty;

lead collaborative initiatives to align instructional practices with institutional academic standards. 10% remote work allowed. Earned Ph.D. in French and Francophone Studies or related field OR ABD (all but dissertation) in French and Francophone Studies or related field.

Salary Range

$60,000 - $70,000 per year for a nine‑month academic appointment. Salary will be based on experience, qualifications, and internal and external market factors.
