SEM Link’s STEM Journal Club, a program of the STEM Literacy and Research Program, develops STEM communication and literacy skills for Metro Atlanta high school students. Program participants learn how to read, analyze and discuss STEM journal articles as well as develop and record a podcast episode featured on the SEM Explained podcast. The organization is seeking a graduate student (master’s or doctoral) to serve as instructor for this hybrid program.

This is a part-time temporary position running from late August 2026 through mid-May 2027.

Location: This is a primarily remote position, preferably for someone based in Metro Atlanta or surrounding areas, with required in-person attendance for the podcast recording session and end-of-program celebration.

Compensation: $16,000 stipend, paid monthly over the course of the position.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, and currently pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in STEM or STEM education
  • Proficiency in reading STEM journal articles
  • Experience conducting STEM research and presenting research findings
  • Volunteer or work experience with high school students
Job Responsibilities:
  • Be present for the program orientation, held virtually
  • Prepare for and facilitate Journal Club sessions, held virtually twice a month
  • Identify and secure STEM researchers to serve as guest lecturers for the program
  • Coordinate with guest lecturers in their preparation for Journal Club instruction
  • Manage the Google Classroom for the Journal Club cohort
  • Serve as the main point of contact for students and parents
  • Coordinate with the podcast instructor and be present for podcast development sessions and the in-person recording session
  • Assist with the coordination of the virtual closing ceremony and be present for the ceremony
  • Be present for the end-of-program in-person celebration for the cohort
