The Electrical and Automation Engineer is primarily responsible for the design of Water/Wastewater instrumentation, process control systems, and technology improvements for municipalities on Consulting Engineering projects. Automation Design Engineer may assist with electrical Consulting Engineering and Integration Design projects.
Consulting engineering projects are in multidisciplinary teams to create design documents for process improvements at Water/Wastewater facilities. Design documents include Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), network architecture diagrams, control schematics, instrument installation details, specifications, and other related documents.
Integration design projects are to support the integration efforts for process improvements at Water/Wastewater facilities. The Automation Design Engineer may work with integrators and project managers to design control panels and instrumentation for fabrication/installation as part of construction projects or turn-key projects.
What your day-to-day will look like, what you will learn on the job- Reports to Assistant Department Manager for work responsibilities, scheduling, and quality control.
- Works with other engineers in various offices to complete design work.
- Designs automation, controls, and related SCADA systems for water/wastewater processes, including communications, PLC architecture, instrumentation, and related software and hardware.
- Prepares project specifications as they pertain to instrumentation and process controls.
- Prepares Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Prepares control schematics, panel layouts, bills of material, etc.
- Reviews shop drawings and assists with construction services.
- Occasionally visits client sites to investigate existing field conditions as required for preparing design documents.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program.
- Advanced Computer Skills, Literacy, & Proficiency.
- Must possess effective oral, written, & digital communication skills.
- Must be able to easily interact with other design staff.
- Must possess effective organizational skills for productive tasks and time management.
- Must be able to identify and solve problems in a timely manner.
- 5+ years’ experience in control systems and/or electrical design preferred.
- AutoCAD experience is strongly desired or must be willing to be quickly trained.
- A P.E. license is preferred. EIT preferred with experience in the field working towards a PE.
The pay for this role is $80,000 to $95,000 per year. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
