Senior Civil Drainage Engineer – Chicago, Illinois
Ready to apply your civil engineering and drainage skills to marquee road and highway design projects that will change the urban fabric of our community? In this role you will be involved in a wide variety of civil engineering tasks on small to large‑scale transportation projects.
OpportunityWe are seeking a Senior Drainage Engineer to work on design‑build and design‑bid‑build projects located in Illinois and around the United States. The position will be based in our Chicago office and offers a hybrid remote work arrangement.
Responsibilities- Independently develop and/or supervise the creation of engineering products that meet customer quality requirements, including defining the problem, establishing work scope, preparing the budget and schedule, planning the work, providing technical direction, and reporting the work status.
- Produce detailed calculations, drawings, procurement documents, design and installation packages, proposal evaluations, technical reports, and detailed analyses.
- Provide support for other engineering activities as required; may supervise one or more subordinates and provide input regarding performance.
- Serve as lead engineer for a specific discipline on a small to intermediate‑size project, or be assigned to a project or organizational team.
- Offer input and technical guidance to CAD designers/drafters, designers, and lower‑level engineers working on the same project.
- 4‑year degree in Civil Engineering (or a related field) is required.
- 8 years or more of related work experience with road and highway drainage design, preferably with state DOT projects.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly preferred, or ability to obtain one.
- Proficiency in utilizing CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering (e.g., Bentley, AutoCAD).
- Experience supporting state DOT projects is essential; experience obtaining canal and storm water permits is a plus.
- Combination of experience with hydraulic modeling programs such as HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, HY‑8, Bentley InRoads Storm & Sanitary, Bentley StormCAD, and Aq.
