Transmission and Distribution Civil Engineer - Remote (U.S.)

AECOM offers a role as a Transmission Engineer focused on engineering design for overhead transmission lines and supporting project lifecycle activities.

Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering analysis and design for overhead transmission lines, including structure loading, conductor sag/tension, foundations, and line routing.
  • Prepare construction packages including plan & profile drawings, structure selection, material specifications, and engineering calculations.
  • Utilize industry‑standard software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, and related tools.
  • Support project lifecycle activities such as scope development, cost estimating, scheduling, and field support.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and guidelines (NESC, ASCE, company standards).
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders (contractors, vendors, regulatory bodies).
  • Provide engineering support during construction, responding to RFIs and performing field verifications.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to continuous improvement of design standards.
  • Identify and mitigate site issues such as geotechnical conditions, access and environmental constraints, and constructability challenges.
  • Interact with client engineers and technical experts on a day‑to‑day basis.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients.
  • Assist with task and effort estimates for proposal support.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with peers.
  • Occasional travel to other AECOM locations and client sites.
  • Participate in field walks and create field sketches, take dimensions, climb ladders, etc., as necessary.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field plus 2 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination.
  • Understanding of transmission line design principles (loading criteria, structural analysis, conductor behavior, foundations).
  • Experience with CAD or engineering design tools; familiarity with PLS-CADD strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working toward Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with high‑voltage transmission projects (69–500 kV).
  • Familiarity with NESC, ASCE 48, ASCE 10, and utility design standards.
  • Experience preparing engineering packages for capital projects.
  • Field experience supporting construction or inspections.
  • Familiarity with utility transmission standards.
  • Self‑motivated and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Success working with remote teams.
  • Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish.
  • Experience with retrofit or brown‑field projects.
  • Exposure to supporting renewable generation projects.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Relocation assistance is not available for this role.
