Job Description & How to Apply Below

Chicago, IL (or surrounding area) Pilot Program

Cardinal is supporting a new warehouse robot deployment near Chicago, and we're looking for a Robot Field Technician to help launch and support this pilot program. This is a hands-on, customer-facing field role: you'll be the on-site presence that keeps a fleet of warehouse robots running smoothly, working closely with our engineering team and serving as the friendly, dependable face our client sees day to day.

We're prioritizing the right person over the right résumé. If you're personable, reliable, and comfortable working directly with customers, the technical side of the role can be trained — that disposition cannot. The position begins with an intensive full-time launch period, then settles into roughly half-time ongoing support, with a clear path to grow into full-time as we expand across the Chicago area.

Start date is immediate.

About Cardinal

Cardinal helps large enterprises adopt and deploy robots, while helping frontline team members build new skills and grow into robot operators. Our mission is to empower people to work alongside robotics and advance their careers in a fast-growing industry.

What You'll Do
  • On-Site Fleet Support:
Monitor fleet performance, run software updates, and keep robots operating reliably at the client site.
  • Issue Resolution:
Log issues, troubleshoot problems as they arise, and resolve them quickly — escalating to engineering when needed.
  • Customer Interaction:
Serve as the personable, dependable on-site point of contact for the client, addressing concerns and keeping the relationship strong.
  • Collaboration with Engineering:
Work hand-in-hand with Cardinal's engineering team, relaying field observations and helping close the loop on fixes.
  • Documentation:
Keep detailed records of service activity, issues logged, updates applied, and system performance.
  • Deployment Support:
Assist with the installation and launch of robotic systems, and help onboard client staff as robot operators as needed.
Commitment & Schedule

This role begins with an intensive launch period and then scales back to reactive field support:

  • Hypercare (first 30 days):
Full-time, on-site availability to cover the critical period immediately after launch.
  • Ongoing (after hypercare):
Reactive field support, roughly monthly to bi-monthly visits per site.
  • Shared-pool model:
Once the pilot stabilizes, you may support multiple customers across the Chicago area.
  • Growth potential:
Cardinal is establishing robot support for additional Chicago-area customers, so there is ample opportunity to stay engaged — and to grow this role from half-time toward full-time — once the pilot concludes.

Service-level expectations (P0 / critical issues): 2-hour first response 4–6 hours to arrive on-site 24-hour resolution.

Qualifications
  • Willingness to Learn:
No prior robotics experience required — we provide comprehensive, ongoing training.
  • Customer-Facing Disposition:
Personable, reliable, and comfortable interacting directly with clients.
  • Physical Ability:
Able to lift 50 pounds and maneuver robots when needed.
  • Availability:
Able to commit to full-time, on-site work during the first 30 days.
  • Education:

No college degree required; associate degree preferred. A college degree or engineering background places you at a higher pay scale and may involve working with more technically advanced robots.
  • Background Check:
Must be able to pass a standard background check.
Preferences
  • Veterans, including disabled veterans, are encouraged to apply.
  • Prior experience with mechanics, equipment repair, cleaning, or EVS.
  • Compensation is based on experience and skill set. The first 30 days are full-time (hypercare); the role then settles into roughly half-time ongoing (~20 hrs/week), with potential to move toward full-time (40 hrs/week) as Chicago-area work grows.
  • Deployment bonus when launching new robots.
  • No office — work from home or on-site at the client location.
  • Clear path to advancement: start as a technician and grow into an engineer through our on-the-job training and certification program.
