About the Opportunity
A growing, mission‑driven Chicago‑based organization is seeking a strategic Chief Financial Officer to lead enterprise‑wide financial strategy, planning, and operations. This is a highly visible executive role perfect for a financially savvy leader who excels in executive partnership, forecasting, operational discipline, and building strong finance teams.
This is a remote‑first position with limited on‑site collaboration (~2 days/month
) in Chicago.
- Executive‑level visibility and strong partnership with the CEO
- Organizational impact across strategy, planning, and leadership
- Opportunity to elevate the finance function and drive change
- Own financial strategy, forecasting, multi‑year planning, and capital/budget oversight
- Strengthen reporting, controls, compliance, and financial transparency
- Oversee cash flow, treasury functions, and organizational financial health
- Partner with executive and board stakeholders with clear, actionable analysis
- Build and mentor a strong finance team aligned with organizational goals
- Lead audits, external reporting, and regulatory compliance
- 1+ year of CFO or equivalent senior financial leadership
- Strong people leadership and communication skills
- Background in complex revenue models, grant/contract funding, or multi‑source environments (preferred)
- CPA preferred but not required
- Experience improving systems, processes, and financial infrastructure
- Comfort operating in a remote‑first setting with limited on‑site requirements
- On‑site collaboration in Chicago about 2 days/month
- Must live within reasonable travel distance
