This role oversees the leadership of the accounting function for Blu Sky with a focus on creation of world-class capabilities and processes around internal controls and governance, financial reporting (internal and external), technical accounting, risk management, acquisition due diligence and integration, tax, treasury and business support.
PrincipalDuties & Responsibilities Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements according to GAAP and private equity-owned company accepted practices
- Ensure accuracy of all financial reporting
- Lead point of contact with external auditors for preparation of annual audited financial statements
- Reduce duration of monthly close cycle
- Review monthly balance sheet account reconciliations; lead monthly balance sheet reviews with CFO and VP Finance
- Construct appropriate entity reporting structure in ERP (Vista) and update as necessary
- Significant contributor to annual budget process
- Prepare quarterly and annual lender reporting deliverables
- Serve as lead point of contact with all banks, lenders and 3rd party payment services
- Weekly cash reporting (internal and to sponsors)
- Partner with finance for regular cash flow forecasts and variance analysis
- Serve as lead point of contact with external tax service provider(s)
- Ensure state and federal taxes are filed accurately and timely in all required jurisdictions; oversee any interim tax payments that may be required
- Enhance efficiency, accuracy and timeliness of sales & use tax, property tax, and all other ongoing tax processes relevant to the company
- Participate in due diligence of potential acquisitions
- Key member of post-acquisition integration team
- Ensure purchase accounting entries for all acquisitions are accurate and timely; utilize external resources as necessary
- Prepare and maintain risk analysis and ensure internal controls exist to mitigate / eliminate risks
- Regular review of financial and upstream processes to ensure compliance and effectiveness
- Through analysis of monthly results for accuracy
- Thought leader on overall risk mitigation for the company (i.e., accounting policies, insurance levels, IT, legal issues, etc.)
- Ensure redundancy (backups) in all critical admin and accounting functions.
- Lead the entire organization towards a world class internal control environment
- Ensure accounting team has the skills, attitude and drive to perform at the highest levels; continuously coach and develop the accounting team
- Challenge accounting team to increase overall business acumen and understanding of the industry in which Blu Sky operates
- Spend the requisite time in-person with direct and indirect reports to build strong relationships and culture
- Create the vision for the accounting team and promote actions that move the team towards that vision
- Tone at the Top be a leader not only for the accounting team but also for the broader organization in terms of integrity, accountability, customer service and innovation / continuous improvement
- Visit offices/branches to build relationships as well as increasing the financial acumen of non-finance personnel
- Supervisory Responsibility:
Direct reports for this role include the Controller & Accounting Department Managers/Directors for AP, AR and Payroll.
10 years of progressive Finance and team management experience preferred.
Analytical with strong problem solving and leadership skills.
Construction Accounting background desired, but not required.
Well-versed in Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel.
Outstanding written, verbal, and analytical skills.
Education:
BA/BS Degree in Accounting, Finance or related major 5 years of Finance in a construction or renovation company with revenue in excess of $50M
