The summer internship is an opportunity to explore and understand the Turnaround and Restructuring practice. You will work with specialized and experienced teams in a collaborative environment through training and development, on-the-job shadowing on key client matters, networking across levels of the firm, and hands-on exposure to the work of professionals providing business, financial, operational, and strategic consulting advice to companies that are underperforming, highly leveraged, distressed, or transforming.
The internship may provide the opportunity to convert to a full-time role upon graduation.
Analyze corporate performance, business models, cost-reduction opportunities, revenue growth opportunities, and profitability improvement initiatives in high-stakes client situations. Research industry trends and synthesize complex qualitative and quantitative data to identify root causes of business challenges. Develop recommendations for new methods, systems, procedures, or organizational changes and prepare presentation materials that clearly explain the analysis, logic, and strategy supporting those recommendations. Gather data through research, analysis, and client interviews, as applicable, to understand business issues and support fact-based recommendations.
Support teams working with healthy, underperforming, highly leveraged, distressed, or transforming companies across urgent, high-impact situations. Apply finance, accounting, operational, statistical, and analytical concepts to frame analyses, test hypotheses, and support practical recommendations. Build or support financial, operational, and analytical models, including analyses related to liquidity, working capital, business planning, performance improvement, strategic alternatives, or value preservation. Prepare client-ready presentations, reports, work papers, and supporting materials using Excel and PowerPoint.
Use research, data tools, and relevant AI-enabled tools to support analysis, insight generation, and execution while applying appropriate human judgment, validation, and discretion. Provide direction and guidance to analysts, as needed, while working collaboratively with project teams and client stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience building and analyzing financial models, such as Discounted Cash Flows (DCF), Leveraged Buyout (LBO) models, 13-Week Cash Flow forecasts, and Three-Statement Models, to project forward-looking financial performance.
- A professional financial credential — CPA, CFA, CMA, or equivalent — strongly preferred
- Experience using AI-enabled tools to enhance analysis, insight generation, and execution, with an understanding of when human judgment, validation, and discretion are essential.
- Experience using advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities (e.g., pivot tables, formulas, financial modeling and data analysis).
- Exposure to data tools beyond Excel, such as SQL, Tableau, Power BI, Python, R, or similar analytics and visualization tools, is preferred.
- Experience in a professional services, consulting firm, restructuring, finance, investment banking, or other client-service environment.
- Experience working with underperforming, highly leveraged, distressed, or transforming companies.
- Experience with business-critical topics such as liquidity management, working capital management, cost optimization, operations improvement, capital structure analysis, mergers and acquisitions, liability management, or profitable top-line growth.
- Experience working in team-based, collaborative, or client-service environments where shared ownership and clear communication are required.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally with team members, clients, and senior stakeholders, including sharing updates, managing expectations, and escalating issues when appropriate.
- Demonstrated sustained commitment, accountability, and follow-through in academic, professional, team-based, or project-based settings, including managing tasks, communicating progress, meeting deadlines, and delivering accurate, high-quality work.
