Head of Employee Relations
Chicago, IL – Onsite, 3x a week, 2 days work from home.
What You'll DoLead employee relations strategy across the United States, bridging gaps between employees and management while protecting both people and the company. Anticipate challenges, mitigate risks, and ensure fair, equitable treatment aligned with JLL's values. As the architect of our Employee Relations, you will shape ER strategy, build a high‑performing team, and partner across HR functions to deliver seamless support. Your expertise will guide complex cases, policy development, and organizational changes.
YourKey Responsibilities
- Lead the ER team and partner with the performance services team to foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and growth that delivers results.
- Provide specialist ER support across all JLL business lines including Real Estate Management Services, Markets, Capital Markets, Corporate Functions, and JLL Technology.
- Guide leaders through high‑risk cases, investigations, litigation risk, organizational transitions, and labor relations matters.
- Partner with legal and compliance teams to maintain best practices.
- Lead data‑driven decisions, conduct audits, evaluate emerging risks, and prepare for legislative changes.
- Serve as the escalation point for complex employee matters.
- Coach HR partners and business leaders on ER best practices.
- Lead process improvements and programs that enhance employee experience while strengthening organizational capability.
- 8+ years in employee relations, preferably in a matrix organization
- Bachelor's degree in HR, Labor Relations, or related field (Law degree or HR graduate degree preferred)
- Deep knowledge of employment law, wage and hour regulations, and labor legislation
- Proven success building and managing high‑performing teams
- Excellent judgment in ambiguous situations with ability to make tough calls
- Skilled at influencing, negotiating, and resolving conflicts across diverse stakeholders
- Exceptional communication skills (Spanish bilingual a plus)
- High integrity, ethical standards, and commitment to diversity and inclusion
- Calm, neutral presence in high‑pressure situations
- Diplomatic approach with ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Expert understanding of employment law and regulatory compliance
- Ability to identify process gaps and reduce handoffs
- Strong analytical skills with ability to simplify the complex
- Experience with Workday and Nav Ex systems a plus
