Data Engineer, Data Science Manager
At Starr & Associates (S&A), we are a full-service business consulting firm delivering advisory and execution services across multiple industries and complex business domains. Data Engineers at S&A are embedded within client delivery teams to design, build, and support data integration and data enablement solutions that underpin analytics, reporting, and advanced analytical use cases.
Both Senior Data Engineers and Data Engineers perform core integration responsibilities. Senior Data Engineers are expected to bring additional experience supporting data science and advanced analytics use cases, while all Data Engineers focus on building reliable, scalable integration solutions across batch, near-real-time, and API-driven data flows.
Current client programs may include initiatives involving emissions-related data and environmental metrics, requiring strong attention to data accuracy, traceability, and governance. This role is structured to support deployment across multiple projects and industries over time.
Duties & Responsibilities- Data Integration:
Design, develop, and maintain data integration pipelines across batch, near-real-time, and API-based patterns - Pipeline Development:
Build scalable pipelines that ingest, transform, and persist data for downstream consumption - Platform Engineering:
Develop solutions leveraging cloud-native data platforms and distributed processing frameworks - Advanced Analytics Enablement:
For senior profiles, support data preparation patterns enabling data science and advanced modeling workflows - Data Quality & Validation:
Implement validation, reconciliation, and monitoring to ensure data reliability - Security & Governance:
Apply secure data handling, access controls, and governance standards - Requirements
Collaboration:
Partner with Business Analysts and Software Engineers to translate requirements into technical solutions - Testing & Deployment:
Support testing, release, and deployment activities - Production Support:
Assist with monitoring, troubleshooting, and issue resolution - Consulting Engagement Support:
Operate effectively in a client-facing consulting delivery environment
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Preferred fields include Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in data engineering or data integration
- Strong proficiency in SQL and relational data concepts
- Experience building data pipelines using Databricks and Azure-based data platforms
- Experience implementing batch, near-real-time, and API-driven integration patterns
- Experience working with structured and semi-structured data
- Understanding of cloud-native data architectures in Azure
- Ability to support secure, governed data solutions
- Experience delivering solutions in consulting or project-based environments
- Experience supporting data science or advanced analytics workloads
- Familiarity with Python or Spark-based processing
- Experience working with emissions or environmental datasets
- Experience supporting analytics or reporting platforms
- Experience contributing to large-scale or multi-year client programs
