SAN Engineer

Description (Must be eligible to work without sponsorship)

This role is responsible for owning, implementing and managing virtualization, compute, and storage systems, including SAN environments. The position leads the installation and configuration of infrastructure components, handles software upgrades, and ongoing maintenance. It includes designing and deploying highly available solutions and resolving incidents in a timely manner.

Primary Responsibilities

- Lead medium to large sized projects providing technical guidance

- Design, administer, and maintain geographically distributed on-prem datacenter infrastructure

- Prepare and present technical changes to stakeholders

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement infrastructure solutions

- Optimize infrastructure performance and support CI/CD pipelines

- Monitor infrastructure health via dashboards and alerting

- Ensure data integrity within SaaS platforms

- Develop and review automation scripts (IaC focus)

- Conduct code reviews and improve reliability

- Mentor engineers on automation tools

- Participate in on-call rotation

- Conduct capacity planning

Education and Experience

- BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

- 5+ years of experience in complex environments

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills

- Enterprise architecture and SDLC experience

- Experience performing proof of concepts

- Expertise in Cisco UCS, HPE Synergy, Dell Power Edge MX

- Expertise in Fiber Channel SAN (MDS, Brocade)

- Strong troubleshooting (network layers 1-4)

- Experience with monitoring systems

- Automation experience (REST, Power Shell, Ansible)

- Advanced VMware knowledge (vSphere, ESX)

- Advanced knowledge of block storage systems

Skills

Works with and has experience working a rigid change control environment

400-500 physical hosts, 2 DC locations,

Boot to SAN, Boot to LAN

HPE Drives larger workloads, DELL will be introduced in database workloads

Firmware of UCS layers, updating bios on HPE servers

Automation:
Power Shell, Python, Ansible

Planning upgrade process for major versions - larger intiatives here in the next year plus

Vcenter, data dog,

vRealize - nice to have

Monitoring is Datadog - Nice to have

Work outside of business hours and weekends

Esxi, patching, lifecycle management

Identifying and building any automated reports that help refine monitoring and observability

Help identify if there is any hardware comparability

vSphere 8 to 9

Implement VCF

Getting someone on the storage and SAN side is helpful and nice to have - we have someone

Getting Esxi hosts

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Schaumburg, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $75.00/hr.
