We are seeking a Senior Environmental Underwriter to support and grow our ESG Risk Solutions portfolio. ESG Risk Solutions is HDI Global’s newly established business dedicated to Environmental Impairment Liability (EIL) and the development of innovative insurance solutions addressing today’s evolving ESG challenges. This role is designed as a senior-level underwriting position with significant underwriting authority and portfolio ownership, responsible for the analysis, underwriting, pricing, and management of complex environmental risks.
The Senior Environmental Underwriter will act as a technical resource, contribute to underwriting strategy, and collaborate closely with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders to drive profitable growth.
- Underwrite complex environmental risks, including pollution legal liability, contractor’s pollution liability, environmental casualty liability and related environmental coverages, within assigned underwriting authority
- Evaluate and analyze detailed submissions, environmental reports, loss history, and financial information to assess risk and pricing adequacy
- Structure, negotiate, and bind coverage terms, conditions, and pricing in alignment with underwriting guidelines and risk appetite
- Manage and grow an assigned portfolio, including new business development and renewal retention
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and internal partners
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to associate and junior underwriters
- Collaborate with underwriting management on portfolio strategy, product development, and underwriting guidelines
- Ensure compliance with internal underwriting authority, regulatory requirements, and audit standards
- Monitor portfolio performance and contribute to reporting, forecasting, and profitability analysis
- Represent HDI Global at broker meetings, client presentations, and industry events as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field
- 7+ years of environmental underwriting experience, preferably within commercial P&C or specialty environmental lines
- Demonstrated expertise in environmental insurance products and pollution-related risks
- Established broker relationships and experience supporting business development efforts
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and negotiation skills
- Ability to independently manage complex accounts and underwriting decisions
- Proficiency with underwriting systems and Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to critically evaluate information from a variety of sources and solve highly complex problems, displaying creativity, innovation, and an entrepreneurial approach
- Ability to organize own workload effectively to meet service standards
- Ability to work under pressure to deliver to tight deadlines when required

- Base salary range for this position is $150,000-$170,000 plus eligibility for a performance-based annual bonus. Actual compensation will be based on a variety of factors including experience, education, and location.
