Overview
Underwriting Specialist OR Executive Underwriter – Excess Casualty is a role within Zurich’s Construction team, located in Atlanta, GA or Addison, TX, with hybrid scheduling. The position requires visibility in the marketplace to meet with agents and brokers and to be in the office/market three days per week. The ideal candidate has a background in Excess Casualty and/or Construction.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain relationships with broker partners and customers in the Construction industry to support business objectives.
- Leverage casualty underwriting acumen across risk assessment, exposure evaluation and pricing to generate and maintain a profitable book of new and renewal business.
- Collaborate across business units including claims, finance, risk engineering, actuary, and technical underwriting to gain knowledge in a growing industry.
- Use market-facing, negotiation and interpersonal skills to grow and develop relationships with distribution partners in an assigned territory.
- Underwriting and pricing a solid renewal book.
- Identify and analyze new growth opportunities.
- Ensure accounts are qualified, aligned with the organization’s appetite, and balanced with sound business opportunities.
- Make agent/broker/customer and on-site calls with planning and purpose.
- Oversee negotiations of Terms & Conditions and closing deals.
- Ensure cross-sell within areas of responsibility to increase product density with Zurich customers.
The role will be filled at either an Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based on the selected applicant’s experience and skillset relative to the qualifications listed.
Underwriting Specialist – Excess Casualty – Basic Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalent with 3+ years in Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
- High School Diploma or equivalent with 6+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support area OR
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 1+ year in Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 4+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support area AND
- Knowledge of lines of business and legal/regulatory guidelines
- Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
- Experience with Microsoft Office
- High School Diploma or equivalent with 5+ years in Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
- High School Diploma or equivalent with 10+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support area OR
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ years in Underwriting or Market Facing area OR
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support area AND
- Knowledge of lines of business and legal/regulatory guidelines
- Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
- Experience with Microsoft Office
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Strong verbal and written communication skills

The combined salary range for this position is $75,000.00 - $. The proposed salary range for the Underwriting Specialist is $75,000.00 - $, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%. The proposed salary range for the Executive Underwriter - Excess Casualty is $98,500.00-$, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%.
