Executive Underwriter - Group Captives

Zurich is currently hiring an Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director – Group Captives for our Schaumburg HQ! While it is preferred that this position works a hybrid schedule of three days per week at our Schaumburg, IL office, we are open to remote candidates within the U.S. You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents.

• Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities for captives.
• Complete detailed opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
• Qualify accounts to match the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.
• Help with the daily administrative requests that come in on policy maintenance.
• Manage broker and captive consultant interactions.
• Serve as a technical resource to less tenured team members.
• Negotiate terms & conditions and close deals.
• Participate in sales team meetings related to assigned brokers or territory.
• Measure exposure, analyze risk and pricing on new business.
• Willingness to travel 20% including international travel roughly twice a year.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area, or
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 3 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 8 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience working in a team environment.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area, or
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 5 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market‑facing area, or
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 12 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
  
  Experience working in a team environment.

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Construction underwriting experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Microsoft Office experience.
• Established underwriting/insurance exposure.
• Intermediate insurance level understanding.
• Evidence of effective negotiation skills.
• Experience handling difficult conversations.

The combined salary range for this position is $100,000 – $215,000. The proposed salary range for the Executive Underwriter is $100,000 – $165,000, with short‑term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%. The proposed salary range for the AVP, Underwriting Director is $130,000 – $215,000, with short‑term incentive bonus eligibility set at 20%.
