Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter – E&S Property

Zurich is currently looking to hire an Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter – E&S Property to join our team. This position may be based in Chicago, IL, Atlanta, GA, or New York City, with the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule. The role requires in‑office/market presence three days per week and involves market‑facing activities to meet agents and brokers.

• Serve as a customer industry advocate, improving the customer experience by understanding their risk and offering best end‑to‑end insurance solutions.
• Use a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing.
• Leverage risk insights, data, and models to drive informed decisions at point of sale.
• Engage in market‑facing and production within the E&S Standard Property group.
• Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating manual rules.
• Work within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in underwriting or market‑facing.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in claims or underwriting support.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 1 or more years of experience in underwriting or market‑facing.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 4 or more years of experience in claims or underwriting support.
• Knowledge of lines of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines.
• Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience with Microsoft Office.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in underwriting or market‑facing.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in claims or underwriting support.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 3 or more years of experience in underwriting or market‑facing.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 8 or more years of experience in claims or underwriting support.

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Experience in E&S Property underwriting.
• Strong negotiation skills and wholesale broker relationships nationwide.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Your pay is based on role, location, skills, and experience, and may include bonuses and merit increases. Salary ranges:
Underwriting Specialist $75,000–$125,000 (10% short‑term incentive);
Executive Underwriter $100,000–$165,000 (30% incentive plan). Additional benefits include comprehensive health, dental, vision, retirement, and paid time off.
