Position Overview

The Impact Director leads the service implementation of City Year teams serving a portfolio of six to eight Chicago Public Schools partner schools. In partnership with school administration, they drive improved social-emotional and academic outcomes for students through each team’s delivery of the Whole School Whole Child model over the school year. The Director cultivates a pipeline of civic‑minded change agents among City Year staff and Ameri Corps volunteers through intentional talent development, commitment‑building, and organizational alignment.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Impact, the Director serves on the site’s Senior Leadership Team and contributes to strategic initiatives. The starting salary range for this role is $73,000 – $78,000 and the anticipated start date is summer 2026. This primarily in‑person role offers occasional remote work.

Job Description Responsibilities
  • Lead a portfolio of approximately fifty 18‑ to 25‑year‑old Ameri Corps volunteer Student Success Coaches (SSCs) serving City Year for ten months.
  • Hire, develop, and manage three to four Impact Managers who supervise the SSCs and drive engagement, retention, satisfaction, and performance.
  • Execute evaluation initiatives such as Ameri Corps surveys and the performance‑management process.
  • Oversee all school‑based and student‑level service results, including academic performance, attendance, and behavior goals.
  • Manage relationships with partner schools, implementing new partnerships, renewing agreements, and ensuring each school meets City Year’s Conditions for Success or takes corrective action.
  • Serve as the executive contact for school leadership teams, forging partnerships with principals and maintaining regular touchpoints.
  • Inform and participate in the Learning and Development strategy for SSCs and Impact staff, including Service Leadership Institute, Mid‑Year Summit, and other learning initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Chicago team members on Ameri Corps recruitment, registration, communications, compliance, fundraising, evaluation, and training.
  • Communicate City Year’s mission, values, code of conduct, and standards to the public, staff, and volunteers.
  • Partner with senior leadership to develop and advance site strategy.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Urban Studies, Youth Work, or a related field (preferred). Relevant experience in management, non‑profits, youth work, or education is acceptable.
  • At least two years of full‑time experience leading, supervising, coaching, teaching, or managing young adults.
  • Authorized to work in the United States and able to pass required criminal background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with City Year, Ameri Corps, or Peace Corps.
  • Proven relationships or experience working with Chicago Public Schools or CPS‑contracted providers.
  • Ability to hold principals, assistant principals, and teachers accountable to shared goals and vision.
  • Prior community service in nonprofit, social service, or educational settings.
  • Demonstrated project‑management competency.
  • High ethical standards of professionalism and integrity.
  • Strategic planning and staff‑motivation skills.
  • Independent leadership and team‑working abilities.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and related computer applications.
