Reporting directly to the Vice President, Chief Sustainability Officer, and Associate General Counsel, the Environmental Compliance Manager will be a key member of the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team. He/she will be responsible for the overall leadership of IDEX’s environmental compliance program. This position has global responsibilities - - IDEX has over 50 businesses, over 9,000 employees, and operations in over 20 countries.

The position will be hybrid, with remote working on Mondays and Fridays and office working Tuesday through Thursday (at IDEX’s corporate office in Northbrook, IL), when not traveling, to foster better collaboration, connection, and innovation. Remote workers may be considered with the expectation that they travel to the Northbrook office with some regularity. This position will require frequent travel to IDEX business units globally.

This position leads the development of solutions, programs, and plans for continuous improvement in environmental performance, providing support to the Corporate team and all IDEX business units. The role will involve working collaboratively with business unit professionals to help implement best practices to improve performance and compliance and to reduce environmental compliance risk. The successful candidate will be able to engage individuals in proactive problem-solving, provide key input to senior leadership to support joint decision making, and act as a subject matter expert on cross-functional initiatives and projects for the organization globally.

Of critical importance will be the ability to establish credible working relationships with the company’s executive leadership team, business and functional leaders throughout the company, the corporate EHS and sustainability teams, and EHS professionals located at IDEX’s business units. Environmental compliance is a key component of IDEX’s environmental sustainability strategy, and the successful candidate will also work collaboratively with sustainability team on certain environmental sustainability operations initiatives and programs.

• Serve as a subject matter expert for IDEX, acting as resource to its business units in the area of environmental compliance, strategy, risk and impact reduction, and auditing.
• In partnership with external consultants and internal EHS professionals in various regions / businesses, develop and implement environmental policies, procedures, programs, and strategies in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations; monitor business unit compliance with policies, procedures and programs.
• Continue to build IDEX’s environmental compliance audit program across the enterprise using a risk-based approach; perform environmental compliance audits and work with the facility-based personnel to follow-up on corrective actions to ensure compliance, reduce risk, and improve performance.
• Lead and/or provide oversight for corporate management of environmental enterprise requirements for permitting, waste management, vendor assessment, shipping/receiving/storing hazardous material and waste, chemical management/approval/reporting, remedial programs, and environmental reserves.
• Drive thorough environmental incident reviews, sharing of learnings, and follow up/closure; use learnings from events to support strategy and drive continuous improvement across the enterprise; lead investigations of select spills/releases, exceedances, or potentially severe environmental events.
