Join one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers, UChicago Medicine, as a Program Manager, Business Continuity for our Operational Excellence - Hyde Park department. This is an on‑site position with opportunities for remote work. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

The Program Manager, Business Continuity directs all activities leading to the most effective and efficient preparedness and response to any internal/external event in order to maintain business operations without interruption. Incumbent will strategically assess the systems and practices required to ensure continued operations of critical UCMC departments. Incumbent will be responsible for the overall development of the business continuity work plan in collaboration with senior management and the Environmental Health and Safety and Emergency Management teams.

Incumbent will work closely with the UChicago Medicine leaders to coordinate internal drills on scenarios that could potentially affect both campuses. This position will also coordinate with local, regional and national authorities on disaster planning and business continuity.

Essential Job Functions
  • Develops a continuity of operations business plan using an all‑hazards approach assessing any threat that could affect the Medical Center campus directly or indirectly. Strategically assess and determine the methods and tools required to ensure continued operations. The plan will identify all essential functions and critical personnel and ensure appropriate mitigation and remediation activities. This includes building and designing the framework for enterprise‑wide business continuity planning with departments.
  • Sets the internal disaster drill schedule and content as directed in partnership with the Manager, Emergency Management. Develop quantitative measurements for success of strategic goals to be attained during said drills.
  • Collaborates with the Chief Information Security Officer to establish business continuity plans for IT in response to any and all potential threats including disaster recovery.
  • Evaluates and recommends changes to policies and procedures related to disaster planning and business continuity to ensure they are aligned with external rules and regulations and incorporate lessons learned from disaster drills. Collaborate with the University of Chicago to minimize potential conflicts and maximize strategic synergies.
  • Determines roles for senior leaders within the HICS structure and ensure appropriate training and expertise of the senior management team to be able to respond as required. Develop systemic management and staffing plans to ensure continued operations.
  • Directs the activities of the Business Continuity Executive Management Committee which will establish standards for business continuity. Strategically assess the efficacy of the standards and make recommendations.
  • Develops and manages connectivity between the Hospital Command Center and the University Command Center in addition to local incident command posts such as 911 centers, CHSCPR, local agencies and other hospitals.
  • Performs other duties assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters preferred. Sustained experience, with demonstrated results in healthcare operations a plus.
  • Minimum 5‑7 years’ experience in Emergency Management and/or Business Continuity, preferably in a healthcare setting with progressive growth in responsibilities preferred.
  • Experience in Emergency Management and/or Business Continuity preferred including with the Hospital Incident Command Structure
  • Emergency Management and Continuity Planning (EMCP) Certificate (optional)
  • Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment.
  • Demonstrated competency with relevant regulatory compliance and safety requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and demonstrated leadership skills
  • Must be able to interact effectively throughout all levels of the organization including facilitation.
