Safety Mission Assurance Verification & Test Engineer
APT Research is hiring a Safety Mission Assurance Verification & Test Engineer to support a commercial space station in Houston, TX. The role focuses on quality assurance for critical flight hardware, ground support equipment, and system integration.
Responsibilities- Work with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pyroc, and pneumatic systems.
- Perform inspections, surveillance, and requirement compliance while overseeing fabrication, assembly, test, and checkout of flight hardware and GSE.
- Assess quality controls and verification.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Actions.
- Support all compliance procedures and policies under the Quality Assurance Plan.
- Read and interpret drawings, requirements, and specifications.
- Assist in the development of Starlab's Quality Management System.
- Support internal and external supplier audits for Starlab.
- Evaluate the adequacy, compliance, and effectiveness of contractors’ QMS activities.
- Provide input to program Quality Management regarding contractor performance.
- Accept flight hardware/GSE, conduct receiving inspections, and review Acceptance Data Packs.
- Execute Mandatory Inspection Points (MIPs), in‑line assessments, and track associated nonconformances.
- Serve as QAS support for Quality Engineers and Systems Engineer teams.
- Document technical issues.
- Identify quality/safety issues and potential concerns that need documentation and remediation.
- Education:
BA/BS or equivalent years of experience. - Minimum 10 years of Quality Assurance/QMS experience.
- Background in aerospace industry or military experience.
- Familiarity with systems used on aerospace or aircraft vehicles.
- Quality Auditor experience.
- Pressure system familiarity.
- Knowledge of NASA Workmanship STD 8739.
- Track S&MA verifications for milestone renewals.
- Perform S&MA oversight for flight readiness & certification processes.
Must be able to receive a secret clearance if needed.
Preferred Experience- Quality background overseeing operations for complex systems.
- Technical background in aerospace or military work with familiarity of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and other aerospace systems.
- Reading and interpretation of drawings, requirements, and specifications.
- Experience with Nonconformance/Corrective Action Reports (NCR, DR, CAPA, CAR).
- Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Actions skills.
- Familiarization with Aerospace Quality Management Systems.
- Internal and external supplier auditing experience.
- Monitoring and evaluating contractor processing activities.
- Clear, accurate, concise communication and writing skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and similar applications.
- Ability to develop excellent working relationships with customers, peers, and management within and outside of Starlab S&MA.
- Remote hybrid work environment, home office with ability to support the customer office location.
- Clear, concise, accurate, and timely communication, both verbal and written.
- Professional interaction with coworkers, management, and customers.
Domestic travel within the U.S. is required.
Physical Requirements- Sitting for extended periods at a workstation/desks.
- Ability to climb stairs.
- Ability to lift >15 lbs.
- Work independently with minimal supervision, make rational decisions, and exercise good judgment.
- Appropriate work attire that does not pose a safety risk or hazard.
