Description
The Wong lab in the Departments of Human Genetics and Pediatrics is looking for a Research Specialist to join our neuropharmacogenetics laboratory. We study the development and progression of pediatric epilepsy over the lifespan with the long-term goal of developing better treatments. We also study the intersection between epilepsy and Alzheimer's disease. This is a full-time position with some weekend and/or holiday work required depending on the experimental needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Under general supervision, performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.
* Sets up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator.
* May be required to participate in laboratory maintenance activities such as sterilization and cleaning of equipment, ordering of supplies, inventory and media preparation.
* Maintains records, files and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.
* Compiles data and records results of studies for publications, grants and seminar presentations.
* Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.
* Performs related responsibilities as required by principal investigator.
ADDITIONAL
JOB DETAILS :
The Research Specialist will have prior wet lab research experience and prior mouse handling skills. In the laboratory, the Research Specialist will maintain the mouse colony and conduct laboratory experiments, which include studies on seizure susceptibility and behavior assessments in mouse models.
* Maintain the mouse colony. Mouse work and experiments may occur on weekends and/or holidays, so ability to be flexible is necessary.
* Responsible for routine laboratory maintenance activities- such as cleaning and sterilization of laboratory equipment, making solutions, maintain laboratory inventory of chemicals and supplies.
* Maintain records and files of laboratory work in laboratory notebooks and/or computer databases.
* Under general supervision, perform defined research experiments, including seizure induction paradigms, EEG surgery, EEG analyses, and behavioral assessments.
* Compiles data for grants, publications, and presentations.
* Performs related responsibilities as required by principal investigator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* At least 1 year wet lab research experience.
NOTE:
Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
